Warm towels and wonder oil

fumblingforwords by fumblingforwords Walking(June 2006) (rank 500+)

Both of my older two girls dealt with aching legs at bedtime in their younger years, and I always chalked it up to growing pains (having never heard what the doctor told KileeGiles about there being no such thing as growing pains).  I remember going through it too, as a

child, and my Mom's favourite remedy was to rub some Walkins Wonder Oil on my legs.  That always seemed to work, though it may have been as much the healing touch of my Mom as it was the Wonder Oil that soothed the ache.  One of the solutions I've found to work in my household is a warm towel wrapped around the aching leg.  I heat a towel in the microwave for about a minute (be careful not to heat too long, because and inexperienced babysitter once burned a towel :-) and then wrap it around the leg and cover with the blanket to keep the warmth in.  This almost always soothes them enough to let them fall back to sleep again.

I'm not sure about KileeGiles' doctor's advice to get an ultrasound, but with both of my girls, it seemed to end (or at least taper off) when they reached about 7 or 8 years of age.

Re: Warm towels and wonder oil

Great advice & I was told as a kid that their were no such things as growing pains - luckily my mum & nan wouldn't listen to the doctor isn't it! LOL! Now my 2 1/2 year old is going through the same thing & thank god for all the old remedies & warm towels/hot water bottles!

Ill try that oil for my daughter when she needs it. Sounds alright. I've also heard that oil is also good from someone else. Great advice too.

Me to
I had those pains alot when I was younger, but I didn't do much growing.  My mom used to wrap my baby blanket around my legs, again it could be because my mom did it and becasue it was a baby blanket that my mom had made for me when I was a baby.  I get the same kinda pains now as an adult, but I get it when the weather changes to the worse.

Warm towel
You know? Actually, the part about the warm towel makes a lot of sense to me, because I would get those exact same "growing pains" when I was a kid, and I still do,  although very once-in-a-while; but I always thought it was because of low temperatures. I tend to get really chilly, and sometimes I would get this horrible pain in my bones that would only go away by staying warm, even if I wasn't feeling that cold at the moment, but the weather was kind of cold. So I do think this might help with aching legs.
