Hi guys well over the next few weeks I will write about the more common STI's (sexually transmitted infections) which were more comonly known to me as STD's (sexually transmitted diseases)
Sooner or later our kids will be having intimate relations with their boyfriend/girlfriends and if you have a
good open relationship with you kids then this is also the time you need to talk to kids about these and show them some pictures and links to them also...That was my thought behind writing these articles...So here is an article in this in the series I will call...
So your teen is sexually active?...The hidden dangers of being unprotected...
What I would like to write about today is a sexually transmitted disease called Chlamydia...
This is another very common STD...This infection does not show any external symptoms as in sores...It is caused by a bacteria from the chlamydia trachomatis strain that lives in vaginal fluid and semen... This infection is transferred during intimate relations in bodily fluids but it is also believed in some cases it can be passed through oral sexual activity but no where near as much as the other...
This STD is known as a silent STD because up to 50% of men and 75% women that are infected with this STD show no symptoms...If symptoms or signs are seen then it will be most likely a vaginal or penile discharge either mucus or pus and pain when going to the toilet...Women can get some adominal pain, low grade fever, pain while having intimate relations and the need to go to the toilet more often than normal...In men swelling in the testicles or the rectum is also a possible sign of infection with this STD...
The treatment of this infection is done with antibiotics...This course of antibiotics can last for any where up to 7 days...During this time it is really important that the person with the infection finishes the whole course...This treatment will not reverse any damage already done...
If this STD is untreated it will travel further inside the body..Once again this STD affects the reproduction system of both women and men..It can also cause an infection in the eyes and then an infection in the throat...This can also lead to making the person sterile also if left untreated...
Premature labour for pregnant women that carry chlamydia is a real risk as well as bleeding during pregnancy...If a baby is born naturally to a carrier of this STD then it has a risk of blindness..Or chlamydia pneumonia, which has symptoms like a cough that worsens for the baby and congestion...
To try to avoid getting this STD once again the best prevention is to refrain from intimate relations with a person you are not in a monogomous relationship with that has been tested for all forms of STD's...Condoms do offer some protection but are not fail proof either...If a teenager is sexually active then they should be tested for this yearly...
This is just one of the STD's that we need to teach our children about when they do make the decision they are ready to take the next step...We need to open the lines of communication with our kids so we have the relationship we need to have for being able to discuss topics such as this...Thanks for taking the time to read this...
This is just my thoughts on this subject I wanted to share with you all....
Have a great day
Cheers
Angie
