Hi guys well over the next few weeks I will write about the more common STI's (sexually transmitted infections) which were more comonly known to me as STD's (sexually transmitted diseases)
Sooner or later our kids will be having intimate relations with their boyfriend/girlfriends and if you have a
good open relationship with you kids then this is also the time you need to talk to kids about these and show them some pictures and links to them also...That was my thought behind writing these articles...So here is an article in this in the series I will call...
So your teen is sexually active?...The hidden dangers of being unprotected...
What I would like to write about today is a sexually transmitted disease called Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)...I know there has been a few good articles written already on this subject but I really wanted to add this to this series(sorry if I offeded anybody)
Human Papilloma Virus is referred to as (HPV)...From now on in this advice I will refer to it as that HPV... This is a very very common infection and there is not just one type of it either...There is more than 100 different types of it..Around 80% of the population has been infected with one at some time in their lives...Approximately 30 of the HPV viruses are sexually transmitted...Some of this 30 can cause genital warts...This is a viral infection...That is spread though Vaginal, anal and oral intimate relations...
Whether or not you get symptoms of HPV depends on what type you are infected with...People who get infected with the low risk form of HPV will more than likely get genital warts...These can take anywhere up to a few moths to show up after you have contracted this STD...Genital warts look like little cauliflower florets that are a flesh colour and soft...They can be on the genital area anywhere in women...In men who are infected with the genital wart strain they can get them on the penis and on the testicals...Both men and women can also get these around the anus...But on saying that a person can be infected with HPV and not get warts at all...
Although there is no actual treatment of the HPV virus there is a new vaccine available where there has already been an article on minti written that has some information about it here ... For more detailed information on this vaccine try here...If genital warts are a symptom from this the removal of these is done for the comfort of the person who has them...
There is no lasting complication with the HPV virus that is low risk but there is lasting complications with a high risk HPV virus...Cervical cancer is linked to these HPV viruses...There is also other forms of cancer such as vulva cancer, anal cancer and even penis cancer...High risk types of this virus cause almost 100% of cervical cancer cases...
If a woman is pregnant has has an outbreak of genital warts they can be passed on to the infent during birth...This can give the baby warts of the throat with is called laryngeal papillomatosis...This can be a life threatening thing for your baby...
Both men and women can catch this type of virus equally...Men are less likey to develop the warts from that type of HPV than women but no warts does not mean that there is no HPV virus present in that person...But just remember that because of how widespread and common the HPV virus is there is no need to have alot of sexually intimate relationships to contrat this virus...Once is enough with an infected person...
Like I have said through many of these articles the use of condoms will reduce the chance of this being passed on to people who are having intimate relationships BUT in saying this a condom will not protect the person from any direct contact that might be had with any warts that are not covered by a condom...The best way to not get this virus is to not do it..HEHE Or again being in a monogomous relationship with someone who has all the tests and has a clean bill of health from the doctor...
This is just one of the STD's that we need to teach our children about when they do make the decision they are ready to take the next step...We need to open the lines of communication with our kids so we have the relationship we need to have for being able to discuss topics such as this...Thanks for taking the time to read this...
This is just my thoughts on this subject I wanted to share with you all....
Have a great day
Cheers
Angie
