Don’t Over Wrap Your Baby………….

hermy by hermy Talking Back(May 2007) (rank 46th)

I was reading an article recently on wrapping your baby….

Thought I would write this as an advice mainly because it’s so important, especially through these winter months….

           Over wrapping your baby with

hats and thick blankets can lead to thermal stress and can add to the risk of sudden infant death syndrome….

Wrapping your baby correctly may improve their sleep, but baby must be able to release the heat. A baby’s head must be exposed to allow heat to be released……..

               I hope this helps

Re: Don’t Over Wrap Your Baby………….
Mine has always had a hat on her head but never beanies.  We live in North Qld and it never gets cold here.  Being an August baby she missed the cold months.  She always had a wondersuit to go to bed in for the first couple of months and has never let me wrap her.  She would put up with it for a while, but then she'd try to squirm out of it.  Too much like restriction for her liking I think lol.  Even to this day she will not keep a blanket on, drives me mad on cold mornings!  She always had socks on her feet though, they always seemed cold.  Thanks for the advice, I for one have never really thought about it.

Re: Don’t Over Wrap Your Baby………….

Short and sweet but to the point , Very good .I didnt  use beanies or bonnets when my children were babies as in our Nth Queensland climate it really never got that cold here either . As my mother lost a child to cot death (sids ) I was always very careful about how my babies slept as I was worroed that it clould have been something in the family .

                                                                Thanks Cham

Re: Don’t Over Wrap Your Baby………….
absolutely right there, also being winter approaching the best things to invest in are the baby sleeping bags(outfits) as the baby can slip down and it keeps them warm...

Also having a sheepskin under their sheet helps as well...

thank you for the adds cazza......the baby sleeping bags are great and so warm, with the fact that they are still able to have their heads uncovered......thank you for your comment cazza xxx
