Practical Christmas Presents

Shellshell by Shellshell Talking(June 2007) (rank 176th)

Hi there

Yes, I know it's a little early to start talking about Christmas!

Most parents/grand parents/aunts/uncles and so on, have that thought running through their head of what are we going to buy him/her this Christmas. Which toy have they been asking for all year??? What is

the coolest thing on the shelves that will make their day???

But I was thinking the other day, and came up with a great idea.

As I have another child starting school next year, I have decided to ask my mum, and close family members who buy for my children to PLEASE, if they don't mind buy them school items for next year. Such as:

  • new school shirts or shorts
  • new socks, shoes
  • new school bag
  • new lunchboxes

I think this is a good idea, as having 3 off to school, the money it costs to send them adds up.

My mum and me spoke about this in great detail, and although school items might not be the best present, it is more useful. We will probably still buy them a small toy, but bigger toys can be left to buy them on their birthdays.

I just thought this would be a better idea, than buying toys that they only play with for 6 months, and then get thrown under the bed or toy box never to be seen again!

So.... if you're stuck for what to buy a child for Christmas, maybe this is the way to go! Just a thought..... Thanks for reading!

Shelley

Re: Practical Christmas Presents
what an awesome idea ....though somehow i dont see my mum doing this for master 6 who would have a cow......Hmmmm i might do it for him though....

I usually give his stocking a theme....last year was school drawing stuff and pencils and paper etc etc

but the way this boy is growing through shoes and t-shirts(who was the brain who came up with white as a good school t-shirt colour?)

Hugs

Re: Practical Christmas Presents
Great idea
Although mine being older would not appreciate school clothes as their present, but it can still work for me by buying them new stationery sets, new school bags, new trainers etc

Re: Practical Christmas Presents
Great Advice, especially for families that have a few children at school. Your so right about the costs to sent children to school, especially when they want the most up date items, such as fancy shoes, school bags and many other items.
Good one!
Regards Janice
P.S. And just to cheer everyone up it is only 29 weeks away til Xmas,

Re: Practical Christmas Presents
Great idea!!! I have four that are at school now, and by the time the baby starts school, I will still have four at school!!! It makes a lot of sense.

I too have the problem of what to buy my boys for Christmas, I have already decided that they won't be getting many toys anyway.  Clothes are always the first thing on the list.

Great article
