Hi all well alot of people might think this is not parenting advice but I think it is and a great option for all of us...

How many times have you been in the middle of dinner and the phone rings and its a telemarketer...Or you are in the

middle of doing something with your family and another rings...The baby has just gone down and the phone rings and wakes them up...Telemarketers have a habit of being hard to get off the phone as well and even telling them don't call back is not enough to keep them away...There is now something I wanted to share with all Australians that is in place for people who just can not stand these type of calls anymore...

The Do Not Call Register...

All Australians can register on the the do not call webiste or by phone...You have to have a fixed line or mobile number that or used for domestic or private purposes...

There is a new act that has come in that is called the do not call register act 2006... This means all telemarketers can check their calling lists aginst the register and they then know your are registered and calling you will make them in breach of that act...

Once you have registered it can take up to 30 days for the calls to stop...This register has been set up to help curb the growing concern in unsolicited telemarketers...

Check out this website here and register for yourself if you want these calls to stop in your home...

I know its short and sweet but I really wanted to share this with you all...Just another thing that may help making our home a little more stress free...

thanks for this great advice, as i am sure this will help us all out, before i went on it i was getting up to 15 calls a week, and it was just so very annoying but now not a one, so i really do suggest it as it does work, but the only little catch to it is that all the charities still call and that's all good but now I'm getting at least 10 of them a week now lol, you can only give so much,

I don't get many telemarketers calling my home but do get the occasional one here and there, but will definately checkout the site, and get my number taken off the list as they are annoying all the time.

I find it more fun to let them go through their whole spiel and then ask them lots of questions and sound really interested then tell them the fantastic deal I have with my current phone company
I am one of the few people that can get telemarketers to hang up on me.
The accomodation one I say at the end of it all ok that sounds fantastic but can you get me a holiday for me and my 10 kids. They usually say they can do 2-3 rooms and I say i can't do that as they are not old enough or responsible enough to be in a seperate room from me...in the end they also hang up and tell me they can't help me. When you do this for some reason you get a lot less calls as well as they mark it in their database too lol
The phone company the other day I let him go through his whole spiel and then said well I have just declared bankrupt because I have no money so a new phone would be fantastic...they back track fast
and say sorry w can't help you

OMG we must be tarred with the same brush!!

I start asking them thier personal info like thier name, phone number, address, if there is anyone else living with them etc it's a crack up! They don't know how to react and start stuttering and saying no they want my details. Especially the OS call centres, they can't say my surname so it's really fun to keep asking them just who it is they looking for, or (AND I'm not trying to offend anyone) I ask some of them if they want a pappadum with thier elephant? They reply no, so then I say and I don't want to listen to your rot!

It's so much fun to frazzle them!! Man I need to get a life!!!

I usually thank them for taking the time to call me and start telling them about my website and the great deals on mobile phones I can give them and how much they could save by switching to Telstra's home budget $19.00 per month line rental and using a voip plan. Most of them are gone by then so I don,t get to tell them about how to get into real estate

My wife thinks I'm nuts.
One day I sat outside and talked to this guy from India for nearly 45mins until his supervisor came and told him off but he still took my website details.

If I am not in the mood my 5yo takes the call for me and puts this speakerphone so we can all get a laugh.

I have done telemarketing before. If someone hung up on me, or told me not to ring back, I wouldn't, and I wouldn't put the hard-sell on people. I tried to be respectful of people as I know a lot of people find it annoying when telemarketers ring. Its not something I'll do as a job again! We don't get telemarketers calling us that often, maybe one a month, and when we do, if I'm not interested, I say that as politely as I can to them. But they're not all respectful of you, so I can understand why people get fed up with them. So I think its good they have this register now. As people deserve their privacy & don't need to pushed into something they don't want by those really hard-sell telemarketers. Thanks for the link to the website, great article Angie!

Yay!!! I thought they would never got away. I am prepared to wait 30 days for the silence. I think I get more telemarketer calls than I do from people I know. I get so many, and recently I just cut them short mid-conversation and say, "I am not interested."

If I didn't know so many people with unlisted numbers, I wouldn't pick up the phone when it was unlisted, but one of my best friends has an unlisted number.

Thanks for sharing ,It is so annoying when they ring, and I really dont understand why they get foreign speaking people to do it as I find this annoying too.Yes we are going to give you a free,yea but at a cost lol FREE means no money needed well that is what I interpert as FREE anyway.

i haven't yet signed up on it, HOWEVER i am going to! I constantly get phonecalls from indians saying "congratulations, you are one of 8 people in your local community to have one a free mobile.....it will only cost you...."
I have even had dodo tell me that because ADSL2+ isn't available in my area, that i could have a free sim card that would cost me 9.90!!! What the? it isnt free LOL.
