abortion advice, real advice no opinions

Anonymous Author (June 2007)

Here are a few things I feel will help if u have a unplanned pregnancy-

1. Speak to a proffesional counciller, in person or over the phone. they will give you unbias advice on what options are best suited to you.

2. Speak to someone close to you who

you can trust, wheter it be the fater of the baby, God, Parents or friends. It helps to have support from people you care about.

3. Give your self a break. Humans are not perfect and shouldn't want to be. there is no "easy road" in this situation and which ever choice you make it will be hard.

4. Look up on the internet or phone book for support groups for pregnancy and family planning, they can help you in alot of ways, and if they cant they can point you in the right direction.

5. Talk to people on Minti, they will offer there advice and experiences and have always made me feel loved.

6.Never let people push you into something you may regret, if you make a desision alone you only have your self to blame but if someone pushed you into a desision you will have more people to blame. It is wrong to have an abortion just because someone tells you to or tells you you cant do it. It is your desision solely as you have to live with it afterwards.

I hope this has helped, I just dont want anyone to go thru this alone and it has been the cause of to many suicides exspecially teen suicide.

Re: abortion advice, real advice no opinions

Great advice i wish i had read this when i found myself unexpectadly pregnant

i got pushed into an abortion by my grandmother and aunty, i turned to them because i thought i could go to them for support they made me feel like i couldn't cope and it would be hell for me and my child  also i had only known my partner for a few months and would we still stay together? (we are!) Mick was supportive of me but didnt push me either way, he didnt tell me how he felt till after but he knew it wouldbe tough to raise a child so young

i was so bitter for so long afterwards i really self destructed it was awful! Only now almost 3 years after my ab i can finally see the 'positivies' in it. But it still hurts that the people i went to for support let me down and didnt think i was cappable of raising a child...i think it always will...

Very true about teen suicides being linked to unplanned pregnancy. Great job on making this ADVICE and not an OPINION. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but when it comes to something as life changing as this. They need help, not a one sided opinion.

Re: abortion advice, real advice no opinions

That was really info, non-biased. Well done.

As working and study in the field of justice, I'd like to elaborate on one little thing....

4. Look up on the internet or phone book for support groups for pregnancy and family planning, they can help you in alot of ways, and if they cant they can point you in the right direction.

Please, please, please. If you or someone you know does have the need to contact one of these family planing etc groups, ask who it is funded , supported, or run/started by. As some of these groups are run by pro-life/pro-abortion groups and the such. These groups will NOT give unbiased assistance/support and will only try to do what they believe is right. And in this situation you need information not persuasion.

Otherwise great job!

Re: abortion advice, real advice no opinions

This is a really good point. Some organisations even claim 'unbiased' advice when they are funded by groups which obviously have a bias.

In Australia, if any normal company made incorrect claims, they have to account for them and can be made to removed/ be fined for makind misleading or blatanly incorrect statements. For example - 'Ribena is the highest source of vitamin C.' That was proven incorrect and Ribena had to withdraw the statement and tell everyone it was untrue.

However, as these 'advice' lines don't sell (or charge for) their product (the 'advice' is free) they aren't subject to these laws. So they can claim incorrect info or withold info and there is no consecuence or way to hold them to account.

So take care.

Well written advice, may help some people out there think about support and not going through it all alone. Leisa
