Cot to "big boy/girl bed"

I have just transitioned Joshua from a cot to a "big boys bed" and this is how I did it.

I did not muck around with him. I just made the bed and put him in it for his afternoon sleep to see how he would react.

He got up once and I put him back to bed and told him if he got up again he would have to go into his cot. He got up again and I put him in his cot and explained to him that he had to go in his cot because he got up again and if he wante dto sleep in his "big boy bed" he would have to stay in it. We then did the same thing that night and he slept in his cot.

The next day I did the same thing for his afternoon sleep and got the same results, back in his cot. Then DH changed the cot and his bed around so the bed was were the cot was and we tried him that night. And guess what?? It worked!! He slept in his "big boys bed" without getting out once until the morning.

And he has been in his bed since.
