Holidaying In Perth! What to do in my town...
Well there is lots. lol Now i have lived in Perth for all my life, well pretty much. It is a quite place; well i think it is anyway. I do live more in the hills and have
a beautiful view of the hills out my front window. It is very beautiful.
Perth
Perth was first founded in 1829 by Captain James Stirling. Who then settles the first settlement of the Swan River Colony. As of last year 2006 the population of Perth was 1,507,900 people.
From the top of Kings Park you can see from the Darling Rangers (where I live) to Kwinana to Fremantle. This is on a nice clear day.
Kings Park is a very Beautiful Nature Reserve with Playground for the kids. Picnic areas for the families and restaurants. There are a few look outs at Kings Park one in which is a very popular place for couples to get married. The gardens here are so beautiful some times you have to see to believe. Every year we have a big garden show to show it off. (I personally am a member of the “friends of Kings Park”) My Dad and I go every year. Here we have the famous DNA tower which is a lookout and by the name it looks like a strand of DNA. In the school holidays they have special programs in one of the parks for kids and they love it.
The Swan River
The Swan River flows from Fremantle towards Belmont and Bassendean and then to the upper Swan Valley. Every year from up in Northam to upper swan where the Avon River meets the Swan River. Many people come here for this event. The Swan River in parts is very good for fishing and I have a lot of fond memories doing this.
The Upper Swan Valley
For all you wine loving people this is the one place in which you have to come apart from Margret River. The Upper Swan Valley has so many vineyards you don’t know which one to choose. They are all beautiful. Houghtons and Sandalford wines will be found here. Here you will also find our own cheese factory and chocolate factory too. (again not too far from where I live and I do like to go as often as my dad takes me as Chris does not like to drink)
Kalamunda/ Mundaring
Now these two places some might now as the place where the water goes to kalgoolie. Mundaring weir is where C.Y.O’connor had the dream to build a huge long pipe that fed the water from Perth to kalgoolie. Mundaring (where my grandparents lived as I grew up) is 45-60 mins away from Perth and is bush like community is so quiet yet so wonderful. They have recently re done the town center to make it more people friendly adding more shops and take away foods, but the old country living is still there. Kalamunda is also a very beautiful place also like Mundaring but more populated. The part I love about Mundaring and Kalamunda is that it is mainly populated by the older community so it is well looked after. Apart from the beautiful Church that Chris and I got married in, Kalamunda has this wonderful road that goes up this huge hill called the Zip Zag and every year we have a festival for it. This road never used to be a road but the old train line to carry stuff up the hill. But now it is a beautiful lookout of the city. We quiet often go up there get take out eat and watch the city as it goes from light to dark and all the city lights turn on, and if it is a very clear night you can see the sun set over the ocean.
Fremantle
Cant go any where with out say Freo. Fremantle is one of the oldest city/town centers here it is known as Perth’s other capital city. Fremantle is the town that never sleeps as it is open 24/7 with shops market and nightclubs. On the weekend you see buskers playing people dancing and this is normal for Perth.
The Markets. There are heaps of them here. The E shed are the most famous with all their beautiful stuff.
Museums. Again if you want to visit a museum Freo is the place. You can go to the Fremantle prison and see where all the convicts where held and if you go at night might see their sprit. You have the nautical museums and the art museums. You can see the replica of the Endeavor. Also if you love seafood this is the place to be. But you will have to go to both Kailis Fish Market Café and Cicerello's Seafood Restaurant Fremantle. Yum
A few famous people from Perth Western Australia:
Bon Scott (of AC/DC) grew up in Fremantle and following his death his ashes were scattered across Fremantle Cemetery, which used to contain his headstone, until it was stolen in late 2006.
