Keeping warm in winter, part 1 - Door Snakes |

Following some suggestions from some other Minti members, Ive decided to write a series of advices on how to keep warm in winter.
My first one is on Door Snakes. Remember them?
When I first think of a door snake, I think of an old lady's house, with

doilies on the mantle piece, a crocheted blanket hanging over the back of the couch, and a daggy looking door snake behind the front door, to block the draught.
Well sure they're ugly, but they dont have to be. And theyre so functional. AND your kids will love making them with you!!
Have a think about what sort of door snake you want to make first. Why not be creative and make one out of fur or leopard skin print, for the kid's rooms? And a few googly eyes from lincraft, and youve got yourself something the kids will love to make.
So, how do you make one?
Well obviously you will need a length of fabric to fit under the whole length of your door. Some googly eyes, and a needle and thread. Depending on your children's ages its best if the parent does the sewing, obviously. You can fill a door snake with anything, but I find that rice works best.
Its fairly self explanitary how to make one, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure it out, all you do is sew it up inside out, so you dont see the daggy stitches, then turn it out the right way, fill 'er up, sew or glue on the eyes, and bob's yer uncle!
Its just one way you can help to keep the heat in and the cold out!
Id love to see any pics of door snakes that you and your kids have made :)
