Holidaying in Oshawa,Ontario,Canada. What to do in my Hometown |

Hello All !!! Oshawa is a few miles from my husband and my birthplace,we have moved around a lot and ended back close! Oshawa is on Lake Ontario and we have summers of 30 plus and winters of minus 30. Summer activities of course include picknicking at the many parks and conservation areas within short distance. They all basically have water and lovely trees and provide hiking, swimming and play areas. We have the Oshawa Generals which is a top notch junior A hockey team and a beautiful new arena that draws top entertainment acts. The Band Shell has music free during the summer and the Car Museum is close. A little north is Port Perry, featured as backdrop for several movies as it is quaint and very pretty. There are special little shops of all kinds and of course the casino,Blue Heron nearby. Slightly to the east is the Bowmanville Zoo and the area has many attractions such as Cat World, cats of all types up to lions! The lake is busy with vessels and you can travel across to the U.S.A.,a short hop! To the west is Toronto!!! A gem. Night life of all types, ballet, theater, comic clubs and all types of food. Toronto is alive with special events all year round. Carrabana is a hit with week long parties and parades as a summer event and sports teams are many. Along with football, lacross, soccer and cricket,we have the Raptors(basketball) and the Toronto Maple Leafs(haven't won the Stanly Cup in ages but we still love them!). There is the Science Center,Center Island( neat ferry ride!),the C.N. Tower...oh just so much to see and do. The Art Gallery of Ontario, the Weavers Guild, the Shoe Museum and my favourite the Royal Museum of Ontario that just opened the Crystal Addition! All this is serviced by the subway and there is TONS of shopping to be done. For a day trip you can reach Ottawa, beautiful gardens and parliment buildings,Kingston, very lovely city on Lake Ontario and one of the first towns in Canada,or Niagra Falls which is a must see! The falls are breathtaking no matter how often you go there. Then you have to see the Royal Botanical Gardens, the Butterfly Conservatory, and Marine Land. Just driving the Niagra Escarpment is totally beautiful. Or the Niagra gourge were you can ride the Maid of the Mist or Power Jet boats. So much to do!!! But if you love the great outdoors there is the Ontario North, not too far away where the lakes are so very beautiful and the camping great! This is just a bit, probably far too long and I know I've left out so much like all the winter joys of cross country skiing, downhill skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, geeee there is so much to do. Always something going on somewhere like parades, maple syrup demos, art and craft fests, special interest groups and clubs galore that but on events. Well if you want to know more or if I can answer any questions, feel free to ask! I'll do my best to answer.
