shopping and losing toddlers

mummy22 by mummy22 Walking(June 2007) (rank 500+)

I was walking throught the shopping mall about a month or so ago when over the loud speaker "If anyone has seen a 2 year old boy with blue jeans and a yellow top please send him over to the service desk his mother is very worried". I felt

like crying for this poor woman I knew what she was going through. having lost my daughter only a few month back at our own house she had got out the high fenced front gate and took both our dogs and to horror when I found her a couple of hours later at the police station she was naked ( I was lucky this time round). I had left my kids at mum's for a easy shop this time round, any way I was thinking about this poor little boy when I entered target but was soon engrossed by my shopping but as I was leaving, convently at the check out counter were these wrist band that come with a special pen. they were about $3- $5 for 3 of them and on the outside it said "IF I'M LOST PLEASE LOOK INSIDE MY BRACLET" and on the inside you can write whatever. On mine I wrote my kids name and my mobile phone number and there dads mobile phone number. there cheap and a great piece of mind. also the kids can't take them off. A must have for any mum

Re: shopping and losing toddlers

Thats a good idea. I made up a tag for my eldest when we went on a long train trip once as I knew he'd be a handful and go running around the train while I was stuck holding his newborn baby brother. It read, "My Mummy's name is ... and she is sitting in seat X, row XX, carriage XX. Don't feed me or I will never leave you alone, and if I become annoying please return me to my Mummy." His teddybear had a similar tag that said who he belonged to as well. It worked and gave the other passengers a giggle.

My eldest got seperated from me in Kmart one day. I'd always told him if ever he got lost to go to an adult and ask for help. He certainly did! He went to the nearest store security officer, explained that he lost his mum, gave his full name and age, my full name and age, and a description of what I looked like and what I was wearing! The PA announcement was: "Would (my name) please come to the layby counter before the manager decides to sack me and give your son my job."

Then there was the time I was at Spotlight and had the pleasure to hear the announcement over the PA that was something like, "Over by the front service desk we have a special 50% off... the little boy who is about 2 years old and wearing a yellow t-shirt and blue shorts. If his mother is still in the store, she does not want to miss out on such a great bargain! Available today only!" Everyone in the store cracked up laughing and Mum couldn't get there faster.

Losing your child in a store is scary, but fortunately most of the staff in these places are very good about it.

Cheers, DA
