Holidaying in Bega

There isn't alot to say about my town, it is only a small town, the most well known thing about my town is that it is where Beqa cheese is made.The Bega cheese factory has been here since 1899.The cheese factory employs alot of people from all over this area. We have alot of farms in the area that supply the cheese factory.

Bega has alot of historical buildings such as the old bega hospital which was built in 1888 and a little while ago it sustained serious damage due to a fire which is very unfortunate. I love the historical builings we have here I think they give Bega it's character and charm. My favourite is the old convent that sold not long ago for over 1 million dollars. I wish I had the money to buy it LOL.

It takes about 15 minutes to drive to the nearest beach at Tathra and about half an hour to Merimbula which is a popular tourist area. We do have a river but that has been very dry lately hopefull we will get some more rain to get it really flowing again.

Every year we have the Bega show which is a Big event for the area. Cattle competitions, Horse riding competitions, Art competions, Lots of animals and carnival rides and show bags galore. It is alot of fun for families

lexi i love small towns, even though theres not must in town to do , the poeple are friendly and most times one happy family .

I love the building as well they so great to go though and take a look at . I miss the small country town i find the kids don/y expect the world living there and over the moon when there a get treat.

Just noticed everyone writing about there towns. Very good idea and I am sure that I will have lots of fun reading about them. I have not been over east and have not done a lot of travel so should be fun. I am just watching the floods on the news in NSW and hoping that everybody on here is OK and not affected. Are you in NSW?

Hi there lexiw, you've covered it all. I lived in Merimbula,Pambula and Wolumla, so I know Bega quite well and would've found it hard to write an interesting article,but you did! I lived in the area for 10 years and loved it!
