take time out for you

georgiepar by georgiepar Talking(June 2007) (rank 171st)

Ok so let me set the scene for you all.  Sit back close your eyes and imagine this.  It is Monday 11 June. Queens birthday public holiday.

Your 14yr old is pestering you.  Mum can I go on the computer. Asking 10 times in five minutes. And the answer is always no, because your trying to limit lime spent on the computer.

Your 18mth old is following you every where asking num nums . num nums. And won’t stop until you actually get her another biscuit.

The baby who is 7mths old is just winging for no reason other than to be picked up, and nursed.

Then to top it all of your 12 yr old calls from a friends place. Where she was having a sleep over. “mum can you come and pick me up.  As if there wasn’t enough to do. When you’re trying to get yourself and your house organized for the following two weeks. As you’ll be very busy working fulltime.

Q….So what do you do?..

A…RELAX

That’s what I did.  First go pick up the missing child from her friends house. Tell the 14 yr old to watch the youngest baby. 12yr old to entertain your 18mth old.  I grabbed a coffee and went outside and sat on the trampoline. Ok I was only out there for thirty  30 min by myself  but that was the best 30 min ever .

You see some people might not think this parenting related but I do because if you don’t have time out for yourself to relax how can you do your job as a parent  properly. You’d be stressed out.   It can’t be done unless you are super woman or something.

So my advice is to take time out for you .  get your partner, mother, father, cousin or friend to watch your kids and go to the movies or do some shopping.  Or even just get out in the back yard with a cuppa and your favorite book and have half an hour to your self…

Thanks georgie

Re: take time out for you

Superb advice Georgie, everyone needs to take time out, at some time. Even if it's just 1/2 hour, just to do nothing or take a nice warm relaxing bath.

Regards Janice

Re: take time out for you

so very true. its hard, but even if you do it after ur kids are in bed, then its still 'down time'. even if elise goes to bed very late (which is often now since her routine is out of wack from having a cold :( ) i still stay up for a while after and just site and have a cuppa!

thanks for sharing

Mmmm - Great advice . . .  I wish this could happen in my house . .

You are lucky to have a teenager who will help out . .  . Sadly not all teens do.

Cheers Kellz

great advise georgie and yes its hard to be super mum, but i agree we need to find time for us, or the household feel that they are so done by when we dont cope as well..

my time is on fridays and i grab some retail shopping in or come home and watch my favourite show- in bliss silence..
