Well when I recieved the minti mail askng me to write this advise I had no idea what I could say but i've had a think and managed to suprise myself there are so many beautiful museams and parks in and around Burnley which tell a wonderfull story of Lancashires
past and how we played a part in the industrial revoulution. All of Lancashire has been under going major renervations recently but things are looking up the town centre's are full of quirky little shops and we still hold street markets aswell as all that were getting a few celebraties to boot, those of you reading this who are fellow uk'ers will be aware that chesney out of corrie lives just half an hr away from b'ley and claire, ashleys wife lives nr my mum infact our mums work together at a local school.
After the renervatuions have been going on for so long you forget to apprietiate what we have in and around the town how could I forget.
Townley Hall (my favorite)
Home to the Townley family for more than 500 years untill 1901when it was sold to the Burnley coperation and opened as a museam in 1902. I was going to give you a link to the official site here but it does'nt tell you about the myth of the white lady so I will.
It is believed that the white lady a member of the townley family threw herself off the roof in to the lake and at midnight appears floating over the lake mamy people believe this to be true and at one time you could camp in the grounds to see if this were true however i was too scared and now they won't allow it its benn well documented in the news but they have choosen not to tell you this on the site.
Townley hall is vast their are many rooms gallerys set up for you to view including the cooks kitchen dungeans and all the beds etc displayed as you go roundare potraites of the townleys who one lived in or visited the hall.
Townley hall is set in its own park and has three parks a picnic area a golf course an aqauariem and nature centre its own garden centre wonderfull sculptures to view on the many different walks avalible and if your really keen you can book a tour of the hall and discover all the secret passeges that were used by the servvents its the most beautiful setting and all the staff make you feel welcome the best for a family day out.
Now it was said that this advice would give other minti members a feel for who we were get to know us better well this kinda sums up who my ancestores were and tells you lots about what put Lancashire on the map:
Helmshore Mill
Is set in the valley of Rossendale and is home to two mills that have been recently connected this is were you can see how textile mills producd cotten yarn and wool from the 18th century, there is also a revolution gallery where you can see the the wet wheel in action the Arkwright water frame was invented in 1780.
The mill holds many events demonstartions and workshops aswell as childrens activities so if you have a family connection to lancashire or even the uk its a great place to find out how your ancestor's worked and made us all what we are today.
Burnley is surrounded but only a short drive away there is a pitureque country side awaiting we stiiill have many working farms and some lovely little country pubs to pop in on your travels alot of them still decorated to tell the story of the pendal witches. For those who want a little more excitement im also close to Manchester were the nights out are fantastic and for a true seaside day we can go to Blackpool and see Blackpool Tower walk down the sea froint go on a tram of even have a day at the fun fair when the darker nights are closing in going to see Blackpool lights is always a great nite for the kiddies.
As you can tell im not really in an holiday destination but thought i'd give you an idea of were i'm from and the culture im surrounded by, so if your ever nr by don't forget to pop in hehe
