Dry nights

emmie by emmie Talking Back(June 2007) (rank 31st)

Training your child to be dry at night is always much harder than getting them to go toilet or potty in the day. Most peoople usually put them to bed in knickers and the first sign of wetting the bed they put a nappy back on .

Welll thats

not wat i did , many children will need a plastic waterproof sheet to catch their wee which is where im lucky as my daughter matress still has the cover it came in on as i knew i would be training her to go dry threough the night and knew for a while there would be wet knickers and wet bedding. But that always gets better in time it can take weeks and sometimes months but dont stop keep them out of nappies they will hate the feeling of being wet and adventually it will stop them doing it in bed and do it either on the potty or toilet.

I also monitor drinks throughout the day she has drinks wen she likes but she is nt allowed to drink it all at once. The last drink is also always at 5.30pm and make sure she wees at regular intervals. Ifind this way she stays dry in he night .

Re: Dry nights

Hey, that is a good idea with the plastic on the mattress.  I never considered that but i did purchase a waterproof protector which was for a cot and laid it cross-ways where their bottom lies.  They were easily purchase from Big W in Australia.

Cheers Julie

Re: Dry nights
What a smart idea in regard to the mattress... If we get a new one, I might keep that in mind!  I think that the inconvenience of having to change the sheets etc is going to be worth it in the long run. (Well, I hope so anyway).

Re: Dry nights
Hi
A good thing that was recommended to me was get a couple of mattress covers and make the bed 3-4 times
That way if they wet in the night all you need to do is rip the first set of bedding of and there is a nice fresh set underneath.
Saves time int he middle of the night and disturbing the child too much and yourself
Luv Deb

Re: Dry nights
Great advice Emmie. We were lucky with Jack - he stopped wetting at night all by himself, and before he was fully trained during the day! He is 23 months old tomorrow and hasn't worn a nappy at night for 3+ months. We have had about 5 accidents but usually when he's been sick. He goes to the toilet just before bed every night and doesn't have anything to drink after tea unless he really wants something. We have an nice comfy underlay on his bed that has waterproof backing on it (you wouldn't even know unless you had a look) and it's great.

Re: Dry nights
Well done Emmie.  It is a lot of washing.  For about a month I was changing sheets every second night.  Then it was at least weekly.  It still is usually weekly, but I just make that the sheet washing day LOL.  I also wake her before I go to bed to go to the toilet then she goes at 5am when she wakes up.  There's only sometimes that I have to change the sheets.  That's when she ends up in my bed.  I change her, take her to the toilet (in case she didn't finish) then put her in my bed while I take her sheets off and change them.

Re: Dry nights
ktlie had a wet night the other night but that the first in a few months so she dong well but wen she does wee the bed she does not wake but wen she does and she realises she gets angry with herself so i get the bedding straight in wash and shove her in the bath. Then stick everyone bedding in with it she dont feel so bad then .

Re: Dry nights

Good thinking

Hannah wakes up and is sad that she wet the bed too but I just tell her it's ok, change her and put her in my bed, when she goes back to sleep I put the sheets in the washing machine and put new ones on.  She has 2 vinyl-backed mattress protectors, so I wash that every time too.  They're fitted and I love them.  I do what you do, change my sheets the following morning and wash them all together.  i got a dryer today YAY! so life should get a little easier from now on

Re: Dry nights

Hi Em, good advice

With my 3 boys, I also found putting them on the toilet 1/2hr before bed, when they go to bed and when I went to bed helped heaps for a dry night.

H Emmie, That sounds like alot of washing.. :D But that is what happened with my girl, at that time I couldn't afford bed plastic covers so I used  shower curtains.
