Holidaying in Launceston Tasmania part 2

sinstress by sinstress Talking(June 2007) (rank 146th)

Follwing on from cazza's great article about Launceston I thought I'd take a look at some more places to enjoy in our great town

Located only minutes from the centre of Launceston is Country Club Tasmaina which offers the best in dining, accommodation, relaxation and recreational facilities which

can be enjoyed by both visitors and locals. The first-class accommodation at Country Club Tasmania offers an exceptional range of choice from 4 to 5-star quality,  including the beautifully appointed manor suites, deluxe rooms, villa suites and self-contained 1, 2 and 3 bedroom villas.  All guests have access to the full selection of the Country Club’s many recreational facilities and activities, including championship 18-hole golf course, health club with pool, spa and sauna; squash and tennis; horse riding and trout fishing. Country Club Tasmania is the complete Tasmanian holiday package – superior accommodation, outstanding facilities, great dining and entertainment, a wide variety of activities – with all the attractions of Launceston and northern Tasmania close by. With five restaurants and four bars, Country Club Tasmania offers an impressive range of dining and entertainment options. Experience the best in fine dining at their signature à la carte restaurant, the award-winning Terrace. Enjoy a buffet-style breakfast, lunch or dinner, or select from the à la carte menu at Links Cafe, overlooking the 18-hole golf course; or dine in the Watergarden for a quick and inexpensive meal. Scarletts Bistro at Country Club Villas, adjacent to Country Club Tasmania, has an extensive traditional steakhouse-style menu and offers the perfect family dining choice.  Bolters Pizzeria, also at Country Club Villas, offers fabulous gourmet wood-fired pizzas. Country Club Tasmania offers an extensive selection of sporting facilities and activity options – everything you’d expect to find at a true country club. The 18-hole championship golf course is recognised as one of Tasmania’s finest links. The 71 par, 18-hole course is open to the public seven days a week. For relaxation or for a serious workout, both Country Club Tasmania and Country Club Villas have their own health centres with heated indoor swimming pool, spa and sauna, tennis courts and more.  Trout fishing in the private lake and horse riding on the bushland trails around Country Club Tasmania are also available.

Tamar River Cruises - The Tamar River is Australia's longest navigable tidal estuary. Cruises usually include the magnificent Cataract Gorge with its towering dolerite cliffs. Featuring daily cruises of discovery into the magnificent Cataract Gorge and Tamar River in all weather luxury, "a moving postcard” is how one guest describes the scenery from the decks of the Tamar Odyssey. Be impressed by the captain’s commentary including fascinating local stories, historic homes and the food and wine of the region. Hear about the exploits of notable explorers Batman, Bass and Flinders and the infamous bushranger Matthew Brady. We share the river with wonderful wildlife including sea eagles, wild ducks, black swans, pelicans and many other varieties of water fowl that are occasionally accompanied by playful dolphins and seals.

At Penny Royal World you can take a barge ride through the underground Gunpowder Mills, Sail on the Sandpiper our 10 gun sloop of war, and join the crew in firing the cannons or Travel on our fully restored No. 16 Launceston Tram to the Windmill & Cornmill.

Boags Beer Tour - J Boag and Son currently offer tours of our historic brewery each weekday. The tour includes a full circuit of our brewery from the brew house to the packaging line, information on the brewing process and Boag’s fascinating history.
