Choices...To do or not to do...That is the Question...

cookclan by cookclan Young Parent(June 2007) (rank 3rd)
As I sat here yesterday morning and looked at the activity page on Minti... I sat here and wondered what are we doing? Why are we inavertantly trying to undermine others choices in what they do in their parenting...So it got me thinking you know and i thought I would write this advice on how I feel about alot of things we do eat and use on a daily basis...

We all  make decisions on a daily basis that can be harmful to our children and ourselves..We get in a car which could cause an accident and add to the effects of global warming...We eat things for the first time or give them to our kids and this leaves the chance we might have an allergic reaction and either cause us to be really ill or even worse...We wash our clothes with chemicals to get them really clean we wash our bodies with soap that can cause reactions and is full of so many unnatural things...Oh and there is always the shampoo we use as well...

We all use deodorant some that contains aluminium...Well I dont any more  but some of  you do...We cook in aluminuim pots which have been linked to alzheimer's...Mot so common now but they used to be...   We peel our vegetables that have been sprayed with pesticides even though we know that the minerals we need are just under the skin...We then cook them in water that also drains the good minerals from them...Check the colour of the pot water next time you drain your carrots...Some of us cook our veges in the microwave and this demolishes all vitamins that are left in the veges anyway...Most veges should be cooked waterless in expensive cookwear that only heats them to 67 degrees so that the vitamins are not totally ruined...

We go to the shops and we eat off plates that have been washed with chemicals...How do we know they are clean of these chemicals?..We stand on the side of the road with our children in a pram or holding their hand inhaling all the fumes from the vehicles that are driving around...

I could sit here for hours and pages going on and on about things that we do that can hurt us and our kids...You know what? At the bottom of that list worring about other mums not breast feeding their kids would not even be there...

You can say time and time again that allergies are caused because you don't breastfeed...But what else can allergies be caused from? Would you like me to go on there too...Hmmm...I think alot of people are losing site of what parenting is all about...To me being a parent isn't about who scores the most brownie points  or not or how many other people i can make feel inadequate as a parent because they didn't do what I felt was the right decision...

Minti is about sharing yes that is for sure but it is not about putting other people down constantly about their choices in their lives...We all do things in our lives and use things that would not be looked at as the right thing by some but you nor I have the right to judge them...It shows a bigger person to walk away than it does to keep argueing with a perosn that will see things no other way...As I have said many times before life has a funny way of handing you a curveball...And someone should walk a mile in your shoes before they have the right to judge you...

So please eveyone stop taking all things said on Minti to heart or as personal attacks...You know who you are as a parent and what you are doing is best for your child and your child alone...Do as I do and avoid something if it is going to upset you...Or you think that the person is being insensitive...

Click on it...Read it...If it is annoying you or it is not what you wanted to read then click back on the activity and go elsewhere...Go off to your own blog and write something to vent in there...But most of all Enjoy the parts of minti you want to enjoy...

If this sort of thing happened in the real world we would just smile and walk away from the conversation...Do that on Minti too...

Just my thoughts and feelings....
Have a great day
Cheers
Angie

Nah excellent I agree about walking a mile in someone elses  shoes....yours are no good your foot is bigger than mine...i'll have to find someone with a article the same size shoes as me least that way after i have walked a mile in their shoes  I'll have a new pair of shoes unless they follow me closely
Keep up the good work til you get RSI girl

Re: Choices...To do or not to do...That is the Question...
Life is fraught with danger, we have to make choices all the time about what is best for us and our children.  The best way to enable ourselves to make good decisions, is to get as much information as possible.  This information can come from various sources, and in some cases be conflicting, and disagreeable to our existing belief system.

By learning as much as we can about a topic, we are then empowered to make life choices that are suitable for ourselves and our children.  We need to encourage people to write their own point of views, their own life experiences, and their advice and comments as truthfully as possible to make Minti a great resource.  At the very least, a differing opinion should give you food for thought and empathy for others at best it should encourage you to research the subject further to become more informed.

Re: Choices...To do or not to do...That is the Question...
i completely agree with you angie!
Minti isn't black and white (or at least i thought it wasnt) its shades of grey as well! Same as in the real world!
I truly think minti should get rid of those with the "its my way or the highway" attitude because it would be so much more friendly!
Sure we all have our own opinions but there is NO NEED for us to force them onto others!
We all use microwaves (unless we can't afford to buy one) we all cook on stove top and alot of us use something that has aluminium in it - but not all of us can can do what those with the bad attitude do!
Great article angie and very well spoken!
