FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCTS!!

lisasmith140483 by lisasmith140483 Talking(June 2007) (rank 500+)

hi mummies i would just like to say that following your instincts can sometimes be a life saver!! My first experience of this came when my Little boy was 9 months old and had some surgery some 6 weeks before ( he had club feet and had a correction done)

he was in thigh high plaster and had pins in his feet as well as the incisions from the operation.

He spent everynight screaming for about a week and when i touched his toes he would cry like i was cutting them off, so we went to the hospital at 3am with a screaming baby and a slep deprived mum and Aunty, i explained all to the doctor and he said in no umcertain terms that my child was teething and to stop being so silly and to take him home, His sugrical site is closed now and therefor would have no infection! ( he had pins OPEN WOUNDS-HELLO)

We took him home and i still didnt feel right so i followed what i thought was right and took him to see his physio who took off the plaster on the spot , we were then rushed to westmead childrens where i was told he had a major infection ( lots of green pus with a foul stench) another 24 hours and my baby would have lost his leg!!!

Thankfully it all cleared up after 6 weeks of antibiotics.

What i am trying to say mummies is that if you think something is not right have it looked at and looked at until you are happy with the response, doesnt matter if you think you look silly mums know best and i know that i would prefer to look silly then have anything bad happen!1

I hope my experience can help someone!!! xoxoxoxoxo

Re: FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCTS!!
Hi Lisa,

OMG - your poor baby . . . But you are right about your instincts!!!! I let mine do all the work when it comes to my kids, now i just need to learn to use them for myself.

A few years back I cut my thumb open on a sardine tin, I had stitches and my thumb was covered. After a few days I thought it felt weird and spoke to my local Dr - he told me its nothing and to go home. That night it was worse so I went to the hospital where they removed the dressing. I had Gang-green on my thumb, i was rushed to surgery to have it cut out and even still today that part of my thumb is numb! GREAT PARTY TRICK THOUGH - watch people cringe as i stick in the pins . . . ha ha ha

Cheers Kellz

Oh Lisa, how horrible for you - what a lucky wee man he was to have you in his corner.  It must have been horrible for you, that doctor needs a can of uppercut.

Re: FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCTS!!
those words are so true.....i have given up thinking iam silly....if they don't listen watch out.....last time my son had a fever and ended up in hospital....the nurse became a liitle annoyed with me .....when she wouldn't listen to me i asked her that i wanted to see the doctor or the head nurse....she wasn't very happy but she did it....they then realised that my sons temp was again spiking so they started giving him panadol and nurefen....which eventually bought his fever down....if i had not persisted on this my son might have had another convulsion......so now, i think watch out for me, cause i will make my self heard now, we know our children and we know when something is not right......great advice.....well done....regards Sandra xxx
