Labels for dairy

Daley by Daley Speaking(June 2007) (rank 500+)

My child has been allergic to dairy his whole life. He's 10 now. I keep a list of all the names for dairy products pasted on the inside of my pantry door. Some products are well labelled, highlighting the common allergy substances that they include, others are not. I also

purchased a soy cheese thinking it would be dairy free. Well, the second ingredient was casein which is milk protein. I believe they would sell a lot more product if they could find a way to make it dairy free. There are a couple of soy cheeses that I can buy or goat's cheese. Problem is, my son doesn't like them. He's so used to not eating cheese that he just doesn't like it.

Something I have just noticed at my local Supermarket is that in their deli section they're labelling all of their pre-prepared and pre-cut items with allergy warnings. Big tick to this practise. It should be universal.

Hi Kellz,

Boy or girl? Does your child have different reactions to different foods? Are they life threatening? What other foods?

Re: Labels for dairy
absolutely agree with you there on having labels with better warnings. as it is hard to read labels at the best of times..

Great article..

Re: Labels for dairy

It can be so hard to know what's okay to give a child with any food allergies, as so many foods have traces of things in them these days and by-products of other things.......I see it all the time at work and we have to be so vigilant with what kids bring to Pre-School.

i agree. There should be more warnings of what is in the actual product etc, so it's just to let people like yourself with a child with allergies can be more aware of what you're buying, and don't have to stand for a few minutes each time reading what's in the actual product.
