I wanted to write some advice and tell my story of mouth absess and the importance of going to a Dr.
Going back a few years ago now ,my husband came home from work feeling quite off.We thought he had sinus so I went to the local chemist and
got some medication to help with the sinuses. He was hot and cold and had temperatures and had a terrible nights sleep.
When he did wake the next day he did not feel any better if anything had gotton worse,so I suggested he take himself to the local hospital as it was a Satuday morning,he took himself better then trapesing all four children and I up there with him.Thinking he would be home in a few hours boy was I wrong.
It had been quite a few hours and I still had not heard from my husband ,I was just thinking they were busy at emergency. My husband rang me quite afew hours later to say the he was being admitted ,so I would have to organize to pick the car up from the hospital. It turned out that he had a absess in the roof of his mouth and there was no way of the infection coming out so it was actually going into his blood stream,he had blood poisoning.
By this stage his face had swelled up two resemble a man that had been in a serious fight or accident ,as his face also being very bruised from the swelling ,I called him the elephant man. When I arrived at the hospital only a few hrs later after his phone call I was very surprised to see him hooked up to drips and machines he also had to have a ct scan to see how far the infection had spread. They had to cut the roof of his mouth to drain out the puss that had built up in the absess they had to do this quite a few times.Very painful he said.He had hot and cold sweats and then started spewing,we hadnt realized how sick he was.
He was in hospital for 10 days on drips for antibiotics to fight the infection and also had to continue oral antibiotics for the next week after getting home from hospital.I had never thought a mouth absess could make a person so sick.My son had a one just last yr so off to the dr's I took him to get him some antibiotics and then to the dentist to have the tooth removed.
If you suspect you have an absess and your face is swelling up you should go to the DR's and have it checked out we had not realized he had an absess ,if we had of left it for much longer he would have been much worse .
