PUPPS pregnancy rash

lopezgrl by lopezgrl Walking(June 2007) (rank 500+)

I had my baby almost six months ago and I still remember the terrible rash I acquired during the 34th week of my pregnancy....after two weeks of misery I was cured of the rash!

The rash started out on my belly and soon

spread on my legs, arms back, chest... everywhere but my face and palms of my hands and feet.  I couldn't stop itching and everything I researched told me that it probably would not go away until I delivered my baby.  I was determined not to endure this agony for five more weeks so i began to experiment with things that were ok'd by my doctor.  After two weeks I was cured of the rash.... I cannot pin point what exactly the miracle was but here is my list.

  • nightly I took a long bath in Walgreens brand oatmeal bath
  • daily I took 1 claritin (loratadine) pill (over the counter medication) with the approval of my doctor, seven days straight (EVERY IMPORTANT!!)
  • used aveeno anti itch lotion - the pink stuff 1-2 times daily (don't over do it or it might make you itch more)
  • used a cotton ball to apply Witch Hazel to my arms and legs 2-3 times daily.....awwww this was so soothing   (I think this was the miracle cure)
  • apply caladryl clear (also very soothing) 1-2 times daily
  • also I kept my skin hydrated by appying a cucumber aloe lotion 1-2 times daily
  • ice packs to soothe the pain and itch as needed
  • whenever I took a shower I used Johnsons Head to Toe baby wash instead of my normal stuff... I continued with this until I delivered.

Sometimes I would interchange the caladryl clear for the pink stuff.... if I layered too many things on at once it seemed to make the itching worse.  Just remember I am not a doctor... I am just sharing some things that worked for me.

You poor thing.  I didn't have this problem either but will keep in mind for the next one incase!  Will have to get your regimen sent over to Australia by family if that is the case!

Thanks,
Angela

Luckily I didn't have anything like this when I was pregnant. Thank-you for writing this advice for others who may be in the same situation. Kylie

Re: PUPPS pregnancy rash
Hi there,

I too suffered from a horrible rash when I was pregnant and would often soak in an oatmeal bath and used lots of Aloe-vera  . . . This will be great for many mums out there . .

Cheers Kellz
