Help For Kids With ADHD/ADD

LisaPetrarca by LisaPetrarca Talking(July 2007) (rank 114th)

I was told I should put my son on ADHD/ADD medication, but after doing intense research and reading the statistics of the number of children who turn to drugs as adults after being on ADHD/ADD medication, I opted for a different method. My son who is now 18 years old was diagnosed with ADD and a learning disability (which is very common with ADHD/ADD), at the age of 12.  I started him on Omega 3 supplements.  I chose a highly concentrated EPA & DHA supplement that also contained a natural triglyceride (which helps maintain the potency in your system during the digestive process).

After six months of taking the fish oil, three times a day, I saw amazing results!  My son not only had better concentration, but his mood swings were less severe, and frequent. His memory also greatly improved.  After one year of being on the supplements, my son tested out of the Special Education/IEP Program for speech and language therapy. His reading and comprehension test results jumped from a 3rd grade level to a 9th grade level.  The team of teachers could not believe the results and  wanted to know what I had done differently.  When I told them that the only difference was the supplements, they said that they wish I could tell other parents.

In closing, don't just take my word for it, please do your own research as to the benefits of Omega 3 supplements.  There are several studies done by major Universities such as Harvard and Pittsburgh to back up my statements.  As a mother, who has walked in your shoes, I feel your pain and hope my experience will lead you on a path that will be beneficial not only to your children, but your entire family.

Re: Help For Kids With ADHD/ADD

Omega 3 and Omega 6 were recomended for my adhd son too. There are lots of things out there which can help like therapy, counselling, anger management. I product tested a site and found amazing results with my son and it is so easy for him to use too, it helped him learn how to breathe calmly when he was geting worked up and how to distract himself when he was getting taunted de to his Tics. This site is not just used for ADHD but for all children as it teaches then life skills that all of us need.

check it out and I hope it helps adhd children as it did mine!

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!  I think everyone needs to know that there are alternatives and sometimes trying natural products before you jump to medicating your child is a better option.

Re: Help For Kids With ADHD/ADD
Hi
Wonder if it works with Aspergers as well
Might have to try it on my son.
Spose it can't hurt and if it only improves his concentration slightly anything is better than nothing .

Re: Help For Kids With ADHD/ADD

In doing my research, Omega 3 was also tested on individuals with autism, alzheimers and mild and manic depression, it seems that there was noted improvement in all of the above mentioned diseases.  I now currently have my whole family as well as myself, taking supplements.  It has also cleared up my kids and husbands allergies and asthma (no more inhalers! yay!).   After speaking with my kids pediatrician, she said  she has seen very similar results in other children she has treated.  She felt that there will be larger studies done in the future  as to the many benefits of fish oil.  What a relief to see the medical community joining in on recommending something without side effects!

Good Luck!!!!

P.S.  Remember the higher the EPA & DHA  in the supplement, the better the results.

Re: Help For Kids With ADHD/ADD

I agree that there are an awful lot of scripts written for add/adhd drugs.  Scary cuz they are pretty potent drugs.  Hopefully, there can be more studies done with natural treatments and things such as diet modification and the sort to help guide away from chemical treatments.  Thanks for sharing.
