When I became a parent, I realized that even though I thought I had things pretty figured out, I didn’t. Having a baby shook things up so fast and furious that even the most basic day-to-day tasks felt new, different and sometimes difficult. I think many parents
feel the same way. Heck, my girls are 3 and 8 and I’m still feeling like I’m in navigation mode. Such is life as a parent. Because this often the case, out of sheer necessity, parents need to seek out and cling to dependable resources. I consider these my parent tools. Minti is a fantastic example of one. Others are friends, family and books. Lots and lots of books.
Soon after the birth of my second child, my mother gave me a small paperback book that I consider to be one of my parenting tools. The Baby’s Astrologer by Chrissie Blaze has offered up some awesome insights into my kid’s Universal make-up. Even if you’re not “into Astrology” or you don’t follow Horoscopes, you should at least give this guide a thumb-through. It’s fascinating and really helpful. And I’ll take all the help I can get, from wherever I can get it.
Because I found her approach to be so unique, I thought it’d be fun to chat with Blaze and get her take on Astrology and why she thinks it’s important to identify and get acquainted with your children’s birth signs. She explains, “Our birth chart is like a snapshot taken at the place and moment of our birth, giving the position of the planets at that time, and their relationship one with another. This is in effect our blueprint for life; a map by which we can unfold our destiny.” OK, that makes sense to me. She continues by explaining that “being born is like going on a journey. We need a road map, which can be - our intuition, the guidance of a wise teacher or parent, and various other tools. Astrology is one of the most effective tools to guide us on our journey.” Ah ha! There’s that word again. Tools. I like tools.
I know that when I looked up my daughters sun sign, rising sign, moon sign, and quickly read the “what it’s all about” info, I was pretty blown away at what kind of picture was beginning to emerge of my daughters. Wow. Cool stuff. There’s a lot to consider and with babies, Blaze noted, “the Sun Sign is our creative potential - it doesn't fully develop until we're older, as it's our character. As babies we live more in our Moon Signs, which represent our habits, what makes us feel comfortable, etc. However, it is important for your baby to be steered in direction of his or her Sun Sign even at a young age.” Who knew?
I was amazed and totally enlightened by some of my kid’s innate tendencies and traits. Blaze even shed some light on how to better parent these cosmic characteristics. For example, she said, “don't expect a baby with an Aries Moon and an
Aquarius Sun to be patient and stick to routines. On the other hand, a baby with a Taurus Moon and a Cancer Sun will have a great need to have their food at the same time each day. Routine will be important to this little one.” And those are the kids of things she touches on in her book. My girls are so different from one another, I know for me, it was great to get some ideas on how to parent to their individual needs, wants, and personalities.
Blaze encourages parents to read her book and/or get a chart done for their babies. She offers services like this via her website ChrissieBlaze.com. She reminds us that “Astrology doesn’t advocate that the planets control our lives,” she emphasizes, “Astrology inclines.”
I personally don’t know all the ins and outs of Astrology by any means, but I’m open to it and have taken from it what I feel is relevant for my own life. If it’s going to help me be a better parent to my children then, sign me up!
