10 tips to keep baby cool for the summer

rockclimbr4400 by rockclimbr4400 Talking(July 2007) (rank 260th)
I know it isn't summer everywhere, but here in the states, it is hot hot hot!!!!! With some days it being in the 100's its good to know how to keep cool and hydrated.

1. Try not to hold your baby a lot when your outside. It makes you and baby hot. Use a stroller or buggy.
2. Keep a sippy cup for her and water for you at hand so you don't become dehydrated.
3. There's nothing worse than a sunburned baby, so keep the sunscreen applied all day when your outdoors. Use a baby approved sunscreen and a sunscreen stick for the face.
3. Although those dresses with the bloomers are cute, try to keep your child in a breathable fabric such as cotten, and just a sundress or onesie will do.
4. Never leave your child in the car while you run in a store or gas station. With these temps, it is just too dangerous.
5. Cool down once a day with the lawn sprinkler or a baby pool.  (Be sure your child is supervised).
6. Make sure you and baby get plenty of rest if your outside a lot. The heat really does take a lot out of you.
7. Consider just letting your baby be in a diaper at home so they are cool.
8. At night, just a sleeper is warm enough, save your baby blankets for cooler weather.
9. For day time sleep (naps) let your baby sleep in a onesie and a pair of light cotten pants, and socks only if their feet seem cold.
10. Use a hat or sunglasses for extra sun protection and shade.

These are just a few tips, things that we do to keep cool. Make sure to use extra precaution when swimming and being in the heat. Children need supervision at all times when swimming. Try to keep cool!

Great advice. We get it hot over here too during summer! (Wish it was the season now... sigh.) I remember breastfeeding Isabella during that first summer when she was 4--6mths old, keeping a pedestal fan directed onto us helped her to not stick to me. Thanks, Kylie

Hi this is great . . .

Just thought I'd let you know something that I just learn't and  that is not to put fans on our babies as all the fans do is cool the skin and the babies bodies natural response is to work harder to warm the skin back up which in turn causes them to dehydrate faster . .  Got this from my doctor.  . . . . Apparently pools etc cool down more than just the skin and therefore doesn't confuse the babies bodies.

Cheers Kellz

Oh right! I used a fan on Isabella and I when were breastfeeding in the hot summer, & we were still warm. But that's cause we were pressed up against each other. Good idea not to put it on them when they sleep though. Great advice, thanks, Kylie
