Allergies/Hayfever - Remedies

Cedes by Cedes Speaking(July 2007) (rank 335th)

I was recently watching a special which had dust mites as one of the topics. Apparently the dust mite myth was busted. I can't comment on that finding personally. However, there are a couple of natural remedies for hayfever, or allergic reactions. Adrenal glands produce hormones which helps the immune

system to function properly. If the glands are weak then allergies will crop up. Vitamin B (Panththenic acid) helps boost adrenal function and 200 to 500 milligrams daily should be enough. Of course, adding Astragalus to the regime will certainly have those nasty allergies on the run. If the symptoms include a runny nose, (or even excessive dryness, believe it or not), try Nat Mur (a simple and safe fluid distributor in the form of a tissue salt, NOT a diuretic), which is even safe for infants and can be crushed and given in a little water. This will lessen the need for so many tissues which will eventually lead to a sore red nose. It's bad enough watching our little ones suffer without adding to their discomfort! Try these few remedies for a couple of weeks to see if they work for you. Also, if in the middle of the night if there's a mysterious 'thing' in the back of YOUR  throat causing you to cough during sleep, then a couple of Nat Mur tablets dissolved under the tongue before bed, will fix it instantly. (After all we parents need our rest too!) Nat Mur will help ANYONE who is constantly clearing their throat, (probably caused by an allergy) I can guarantee it. They don't cost much either, about $7 AUS for 100.

Re: Allergies/Hayfever - Remedies

Natural remedies are good.  But if you can avoid taking something do...Another I would suggest for nasal sinus issues is a Neti Pot.  Basically it is irrigating or rinsing out the sinus passages with warm salt (saline) water.

I would consult your regular GP as well if using natural/homeopathic remedies.  They may be natural but can often interfere with other medicaitons taken.  And wouldn't give this to a child without first consulting a doctor.

Re: Allergies/Hayfever - Remedies
Sounds good, however as with any pharmaceutical medications, natural remedies should be taken with care, as although they are effective, some may not suit everyone.  It pays to consult a Naturopath or similarly qualified person first, as they need to know if you are on any other medication, or your general history first.
