Wet weather blues...

quinjai3 by quinjai3 Talking(July 2007) (rank 500+)

Hi All,

Is it just me or when that rain starts to set in hard and wet does your mood run down the drain with it, as you know that your little ones be them 2 ,12 or sometimes even 20 start to get whingy, grumpy and down right

nasty.

Well over my few years of rainy day blues I have devised some activities which seems to make things run smoother.

Here are some of my amd my little ones favourite rainy day activities:

1. Rug up snug and warm reading; with regular stops for making warm chocolate (coffee for mum) and a wriggle. In my house hold we have discovered some classic favourite stories this way. An alternative is sit together and make up your own adventures and write them down then illustrate them with the little ones help so you can read these the next rainy day.

2. Arts and crafts a plenty, from playdoh throught to beads and pasting; Have a varity and space them out through the day to keep the peace, turn it into a game by displaying finished pieces in a make believe kids gallary of art.  If you like invite friends and family over for the kids to show off their creations( my 6 year old step daughter loves this, nanna makes the best critic the kids always get great reviews )

3.Cold little bodies need warm tummies, so stock up those ovens and bake away your rainy day blues. kids love cookies and cakes aplenty or even good old fashioned scones with jam and cream. find some simply recipes which suit your house hold and have those few special ingrediants on hand for those cold wet days.

4. If not opposed to as little mess, a cubby or fort made from bedding always goes down a treat( my 2 boys love playing forts with their daddy) just some kitchen chairs, some pegs, the kids bedding and some space paired with a bit of craftmanship. You'll be fighting dragons or ogars away in no time.

and last but most of all not least....

5. Rug up, get your slickers and gum boots ( known as sticky boots or puddle jumpers in my house) on and head out doors for some good old fashion puddle jumping its great messy fun for young and old..ish. Followed by a nice long warm bath, its a great way to use some pent up energy and for little ones to experience their environment in different  ways.

I hope you all have fun enjoying the wet weather and being happily indoors together

happy parenting

Yes it is that time of year again and some great ideas. They can even help to cook those cakes or scones to warm there tummies. Yum. Going to the indoor gyms once or twice during winter good too. I am always looking for new activities or ideas for the little kids that I look after. Even just getting a different puzzle or book from the library is good and don't forget the library runs story sessions and activities!

Re: Wet weather blues...
I love rainy dys. I go sit out under the tin patio with a cuppa and that is how I chill out (when bub is having a nap) otherwise its pretty much just indoors stuff. But he is getting to the age where he needs rainy day activities so I will try some of these. Taa

Great article...the main thing that annoys me about Winter is when it rains and rains and I can't get my washing caught up with!!!  HELP!!! I also can't stand the cold, but my wood heater is awesome...I will surely miss it if when I move I don't have one...

Lovey suggestions.  And as it is raining and getting colder in Melbourne, these tips should come in handy.
