Go fly a kite

Ngairi by Ngairi Talking Back(July 2007) (rank 52nd)

Well the weather here in Brissie these last 2 weeks has been fantastic kite flying weather. The wind has been up and blowing, but no rain so the kids could go out and enjoy. So we decided to make some kites and go to the park.

At our Under

8's day this year, one of the activities was to make a kite. Now I know this sounds like a difficult activity to do. BUT... the lady who did this with the kids at school and we are talking all the Prep, Year 1, 2 & 3 kids, so we had a lot of them to get through, had a fantastic idea.

What you need:

a plastic shopping bag

Marker pen

Piece of wool, about 2 meters

Crepe paper streamers of different colours (just bought a 4 pack from the cheap shop)

Stapler

How to make

Get your child to decorate the bag with the marking pen. Could be a face, a picture,or just squiggles.

tie the two handles together (like you were carrying the bag) with the end of the wool.

Staple a few lengths of streamer to the bottom end of the bag.

Hold the end of the wool and run!

The wind will get in the bag and fill it up and will fly for while.

Good for them to get a little bit of excercise, run off the wind crazies (mine go absolutely nutso in the wind), and expend all that energy.

they love it.

Have fun, and as Mr Banks said in Mary Poppins "Let's go fly a kite and send it soaring up in the atmospher..."
