convultions

chazy by chazy Walking(July 2007) (rank 500+)

It all started for our famliy when our youngest daughter Kimbley woke one morning burning up, I stripped her baby grow off gave calpol, then she wanted her bottle as normal, I called my husband Steven straight away, as I needed to get our eldest daughter Geraldine to school. Half

way through her bottle she was sick every where so cleaned up then resettled down with her. Steven came home to take Geraldine to school and her brother Samuel wanted to go with daddy, so off they went, just a few minutes after they all left Kimberley went ridged something in me told me to put her in the middle of the floor and phone 999, the service centre spoke to me all the time that the ambalance was on the way, whilst she was fitting, when she was fitting her eyes rolled back arms and legs jolting around back arching, I had to check she was still breathing it is so scary, then she was bringing up sick and fluid, this went on for around 6 to 7 mins but felt more like 15, once the amblance got to us they gave her oxygen, Kimberley didn't start to respond till we got to the hospitail which would take half an hour to reach by car. So it was blue lights all the way and straight into resus, she finally cried out when we reached the A&E, what a fantastic sound my child is alive, i don't know how other mums feel when our darlings are crying loudly, in a normal situation but it gets me down, well it did till now.

We had a 3 night stay in hosiptial as it was'nt till the second day that she started to be her normal self and all the results of blood test came back showing that it was all due to a virus she had, my advice would be to place them in the middle of the floor call 999 stay calm ( easier said than done but something just takes over and it happens well did for me every body is different). and keep talking to them just to let them know you are there, they apparently don't even relise anything has happened but made me feel better,The emergency service call centre tell you what to do and they stay with you till the ambalance crew arrive they are so good at what they do, very skilled people indeed.

Hope this has has helped, I really feel for you and anyone who has had this experiance, it is frighting cause you feel so helpless.

Unfortunatly she has had another episode since, but did not have a fever, so she is under investigation. Will let you all know what that out come is. If anyone has any advice for me let me know thank you.

Re: convultions

Hi,I know how scary fits can be my eldest son had a febrile convulsion when he was 4 and I never knew about them, before this time.We called the ambulance and it was terrible as my son was just looking straight through me as if he did not recognize me and that he did not know what was going on.Out of my four children he was the only one that ever had one and luckily he never did have another one again either.Good luck with the tests and I hope all goes well with your daughter.Great Article.

Re: convultions

When you said about that look of not knowing who you are, that was somthing that upset me more than the convultion, I had heard of it only by chance when my son had a very high temperture, I had phoned the doctors on call, was advised to put him in a luke warm bath then let him air dry, bless him he was shivering so much I could'nt take it, so I dried and wrapped him. The very next day I took him to the famliy doctor who was very shocked that they advised to do it, as it could cause a convultion. Which he then briefly explained what a febralconvultion was. So now if any of my kids get tempertures I put a cold pack on the forehead then hands into cold water it dose help, I have found a kool 'n' gel pack that sticks to the forehead no wet drips so bedding stays nice and dryso do the pjs they are also great for headaches, neck tension and migrains.

Thank you for your reply
