Potty Training

Mandy460 by Mandy460 Talking(July 2007) (rank 500+)

Hello Everyone,

Just a short word from me on Potty Training. I think the key to it is waiting for the child to be ready for it. I have seen alot of Mums trying to train their children too early (some only 18mths) and it seems to go and

on forever.. Im not sure if tsome Mums feel pressure to have their child trained by a certain age or if they want their child to do it before other kids but when its too early the poor kids suffer. I see them wetting themselves at Playgroup all the time and Mums saying this Potty Training in hideous. As my little girl was a little younger than the other kids so i saw this over and over and was dreading potty training. I waited until Jaz was almost 2.5, she was ready and it took 3days! I couldnt believe how easy it was. After 3days of accidents here and there it stopped and i was only putting a Nappy on her at night time. (im sure the smarties on the window still helped things along!) Once i started panties i never went back to nappies during the day so there was no confusion. A week later no nappy for bed either and we havent looked back ever since. Im sure it is all due to getting the time right. I learn it doesnt have to be a major drama.

Thanks i hope that helps!

Re: Potty Training

Thankyou for sharing,  i dont believe in pushing a child to be toliet trained , you as a parent will know when they are ready. Both of my children were different ages and one was earlier than the other. There is no drama when the child is ready the only will be is wen the child is not quite ready to be toliet trained. Well done and enjoyed reading.

Re: Potty Training
I would love to have my daughter trained before our baby arrives in September, but she doesn't want to try.  When I did put her on the potty the first time she cried, so we've been taking it very slow.  Thanks for reinforcing what I think about it, despite the fact that it'll probably be quite a few months now in coming.

Re: Potty Training
I must admit it did take a few months with mine, but I wasn't concerned.  I had fun with it and she was rarely having accidents by 16 months, and taking herself to the toilet from 19 months without being told or reminded.  She still wore nappies to shopping centres or places where the toilets were just too far for us to walk but I could stop that by her second birthday too.  I guess she was kind of ready and my intention wasn't to toilet train as such, just get her used to the toilet and she loved it. I just wanted her to see that the toilet wasn't so scary.
