Games with the Kids

Anonymous Author (July 2007)
I thought as there are a few being done of late i thought i would write what my kids and i like to do.

Hide and seek. even though this is a very simple game to play my 2 love to play this one. we all hide in
the house and have to find each other including our cats as they like to play to. our house is a reasonable size but not over the top.

Painting at the moment we like to paint with the bath soaps i personally have only seen them through Avon but i am sure you can buy them all over the place and the crayons to are great.
Buy the cheap home brand pasta and paint them up and make necklaces pretty pictures. all you need is the PVA glue and acrlic pain.

Play Dough I bought a whole heap last christmas as it was going out so cheap i couldnt resist. but i do prefer to make it. i normal cheat and get someone else to but have been told it is on the back of the bi carb soda box or baking powder. i tent to make a few colours so the kids can choose their colours and they can also learn their colours. i also would get them to help make it with the measuring. i use cookie cutters and the play dough cutter that i bought last christmas.

Scrapbooking and card making believe it or not but some of the pages that i love the most were done by Alex and Charlie. you can buy child friendly gillotines and those craft scissors are very child friendly as well. you can buy heaps of good stickers at the $2 shop and paper packs as well. Also if it is someones birthday we make them a card to. i buy those craft stampers (the ones that cut shapes like daisies) and on paper the kids can punch them out but on card they need help.

Celebritiy Heads this is an awesome game. we use foods and cartoon characters that we like. Alex and Charlie are good at it. you write on a piece of card what it is with a picture and put it on a headband. luckly i have a few of these.

Sing Star even though this is a playstaion game it is a lot of fun and my kids love it. their 2 favourite songs are do wha diddi and i am by killing heidi. we play this for hours and hours. it teaches them music and listening skills and with Alex at starting to read level he is reconising words.

Now on the PC i have a wonderful game that has many many versions and year levels, its called JUMPSTART. Alex loves it and it is 100% educational. i dont mind him playing this as much as he wants. So far he has learned fractions and is learning about words, nouns, verbs ect. it is all animals that you play and all the education stuff mounts up to a game in the end.

Cooking we do this a lot as most of us do i think. our favourite is pizza. Alex has the base down pack and loves his ham and pineapple topping. but we still love making biscuits and the odd cake. They also like to help me when i make my stews.

Well these are the games and things that we love to do here. i hope that you might like to try some with your kiddies if you dont already do them.

Liz

Hi Liz,

Great advice mate . . .  Although you are tougher than me . . I can't handle kids in my kitchen as I am always frightened that they will get hurt as our little ones can move so fast . .  Hubby is great in the kitchen with the kids though.

Cheers Kellz

I love the Jumpstart stuff. It is great. I have so many games and things that are educational for the kids. My kids love to cook and they take it in turns to prepare the evening meal for everyone. Even the 5yr old has a turn to make dinner. They choose whatever they want to cook and go from there. I help the young one, but the older boys do it themselves. Leisa
