Travel sickness .

emmie by emmie Talking Back(July 2007) (rank 30th)

Mystep daughter suffers with travel sickness , it came on all of a sudden before we could drive for miles and nothing then 1 day a friend and i went shopping with the children in the back of the car one minute both were happy and my step daughter was

singing the next my step daughter would be quiet thats it before we realised something was wrong she had been sick down my friends neck ewww so i ran in 1st and grabbed her some new clothes and carrie on with our shopping trips so then we visited the dr after a few weeks of this happening he gave me some tablets which were no help what so ever so here is how i dealt with my step daughters travel sickness with out keeping her taking these tablets that were supposed to stop her being sick .

Wrist bands which you can get at main chemists is quite good its a bit like an elastic band with this strange bit of material which stops them being or feeling sick which does help her on short journeys to the school etc

The best thing ive ever had for her travel sickness is these tablet based joy-rides they dont get taken with water they are sweets to my step daughter and she really likes the taste too as they are fruit flavour it is so easy to pretend they are sweets and she also knows she has to have these before we get ready to go in the car so that she does not get poorly

I usually take along some nappy bags just in case we have a little accident in the car .

She also likes me to sit in the back when she starts feeling tired which if she hadnt had a tablet she would be being sick so i usually jump in the back and comfort her

We always take a bottle of water also i found that keeping her full of water not juice , milk or milkshakes as these do make her sick on journeys

We have slowly been breaking her in to travelling further and further every time we go out for the day we are now able to travel 20 miles that we have tried with her having these sweets before she could only ttravel 1 mile without being sick and we increase it by 5 miles each time and hopefully by nxt yr we will be able to visit a friend 200 miles away

We always take a spare set of clothes because you never know maybe she will have a little accident with no warning

Travel sickness does not always stay within a child and can come on as quick as you can click your fingers .

I hope this helps someone

thanks

Ginger, really works for me. I make some gingernut biscuits and nibble on them while I am driving. My two year old has just started getting car sick and I am definatley going to try them with him. If that doesn't work I will try some of your suggestions. Thanks for the advice.

Re: Travel sickness .
This is good advice - I get carsick too.  I got carsick driving out to Penrith for footy the other day, and I felt sick and sleepy throughout the game (it showed), and I only started to feel better on the way home.  It isn't so bad now, being an adult, I get to sit in the front seat.  I can't look out the side windows too much, or eat or drink much other than maybe some flavoured water.  One time I was driving like a demon on a curvy road and I even managed to make myself sick...  (Not speeding, just throwing a sports car into the corners as you do).

Re: Travel sickness .
great advice emmie. i suffer from travel sickness still! sad i know u r supposed to grow out of it at about age ten but that didnt happen for me..... i find leaving the window open a crack and sticking 2 or 3 fingers out the window helps me alot when im feeling sick not sure why apparently it has somehgting the do with dropping your body heat or something. the sea bands or wrist bands work somewhat for trips but i found the tablets didnt work and made me feel horrid.
