I'm a stay at home mom so during my waking hours, my mind is full of things that I have to do, forgot to do, and things I haven't done. Everywhere I look, I see reminders of these things. Even if I haven't really picked up a finger and done
anything, I'm already exhausted. Life is too serious, so if you're like me, I could definitely use a good deep-from-within-pee-in-my-pants-tear-in-my-eyes kind of belly laugh. But how? I'm home all day, so I have no one to converse with. As much as I like talking to my husband and hearing his weird off the wall jokes, I can only call him at work so much without driving him crazy.
My suggestion is to buy/rent a funny movie. My favorite funny movie is Nine Months, with Hugh Grant and Robin Williams (I can't remember the woman's name on it). It's a wholesome movie that surely made me laugh so hard the first time I saw it years and years ago. While I was pregnant and quit work, I saw this movie maybe 15-20 times. I haven't seen it lately because there is no more VCR player in my living room. I guess I'll have to just buy it on DVD. Buy a movie that made you laugh, this way, you can just pop it in the VCR/DVD at some part of the day. Since you've already seen it, it wouldn't matter you miss parts of it because of the many things you have to do around the house.
Laughing is good for the body. The act of laughing makes your body produce hormones that makes you feel good. And who doesn't want to feel good? Aside from watching a funny movie, you can read something funny and listen to a standup comedian's CD/DVD. Whatever will make you laugh from your gut, you should do it!
The other thing I would love to do again is go to the local comedy club. I've only done it 2x before and it was excellent. Not everyone in the line-up will make you laugh hard, but there's bound to be at least one for the evening! It takes a little coordination to leave the house for the evening and attend one of these shows, but once in a blue moon won't hurt things. Go try it!
There's a saying we're all familiar with, "if mom is happy, everyone is happy!"
