Have a Belly Laugh!

Izzy by Izzy Minti Founder(July 2006) (rank 8th)

I'm a stay at home mom so during my waking hours, my mind is full of things that I have to do, forgot to do, and things I haven't done. Everywhere I look, I see reminders of these things. Even if I haven't really picked up a finger and done anything, I'm already exhausted. Life is too serious, so if you're like me, I could definitely use a good deep-from-within-pee-in-my-pants-tear-in-my-eyes kind of belly laugh. But how? I'm home all day, so I have no one to converse with. As much as I like talking to my husband and hearing his weird off the wall jokes, I can only call him at work so much without driving him crazy.

My suggestion is to buy/rent a funny movie. My favorite funny movie is Nine Months, with Hugh Grant and Robin Williams (I can't remember the woman's name on it). It's a wholesome movie that surely made me laugh so hard the first time I saw it years and years ago. While I was pregnant and quit work, I saw this movie maybe 15-20 times. I haven't seen it lately because there is no more VCR player in my living room. I guess I'll have to just buy it on DVD. Buy a movie that made you laugh, this way, you can just pop it in the VCR/DVD at some part of the day. Since you've already seen it, it wouldn't matter you miss parts of it because of the many things you have to do around the house.

Laughing is good for the body. The act of laughing makes your body produce hormones that makes you feel good. And who doesn't want to feel good? Aside from watching a funny movie, you can read something funny and listen to a standup comedian's CD/DVD. Whatever will make you laugh from your gut, you should do it!

The other thing I would love to do again is go to the local comedy club. I've only done it 2x before and it was excellent. Not everyone in the line-up will make you laugh hard, but there's bound to be at least one for the evening! It takes a little coordination to leave the house for the evening and attend one of these shows, but once in a blue moon won't hurt things. Go try it!

There's a saying we're all familiar with, "if mom is happy, everyone is happy!"

Laughter is the best medicine.  Did you know there are Laughter 'classes' out there where you just stand around and laugh and then it becomes infectious??  Crazy eh?  Maybe not!  I also like the 'funnies' that my friends send via email...some of them not very wholesome though!!

I've seen that on TV! It sounds very cool...

I need a good, long, hard laugh lately.  Anybody have a laugh out loud movie recommendations?

Great advice Izzy!

My favourite movies for a giggle while the kids are around are the Aardman ones, eg, Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run, Creature Comforts! Kids love these on one level, adults on another, & no awkward questions to answer LOL!

Greatest medicine
Laughter is truly the greatest medicine, and what a great feeling it leaves behind.
And what better reason to invest in a funny movie.  Awesome tip Izzy

Have you checked out the family funnies on minti. I am not sure if it is in the groups or forums section. I read one last night and laughed so hard I coughed. My husband came in from the other room to see why I was laughing.

couldnt agree more
the only problem is that I always want to share funny things with my husband or friends.  Thank goodness for Tivo...if Im ever watching something on tv when Im home alone with the kids I just record it so I can share it with other people as well.

hiccups
The other day Liam and I had the hiccups- but mine were the violently painful kind. everytime one of us would hiccup he would gigle, and when mine got worse he had a big belly laugh, which made me laug h too. it was then that i found that laughing whilse hiccuping makes you hiccup more! We laughed for a good half hour until he fell asleep. and then my hiccups went away.

Funniest home videos
What a great idea. The most pee in the pants funny to watch for me would have to be "funniest home videos". With funny things happening one after the other. Definitely on my wish list :)

I like watching things like this with Leala - even if she doesn't always get it, she loves the ones with animals and when I find something funny she cracks up laughing, too! So we have a little bonding session and a laugh at the same time - when one laughs, we both do and then set each other off.

bonding while laughing
This is a great story.  It reminded me of a day when my husband and I were intently chatting and ended up bursting in laughter. When Matthew heard us, he immitated the laugh... it was very cute.

Laughter

A pee-in-your-pants laugh?   We need to get some bigger diapers then.

I do believe that laughter is some of the best medicine in the world.  I have worked in environments where there is not a lot of laughter or joking and it is a very stale environment.

I'm exactly like you. My short-term memory has also gone bye-bye since Matthew. It's terrible, isn't it?
