Fun Way of Saving for Treats

nell18-3 by nell18-3 Young Parent(August 2007) (rank 1st)
I've read a lot of articles lately about saving for Christmas etc

So I thought I would share with you this fantastic tip that my Mum does

It works well for me too

And even I don't miss the money I save!!!!

My Mum
has a pot for each of her grandchildren

Everytime she has been out shopping, she goes through her coins and the higher value coins, here in the UK that would be the £2, £1 and 50p she checks the minted date on each coin.

Any coins that were minted on the year of the birth of one of her grandchildren, she puts in that grandchild's pot

My Mum takes great pleasure from this, she quickly gets each pot "rattling"

Then when it comes to birthdays/Christmas or even those special treats, she takes that childs pot with her and uses the money from there!

I have started doing it with my children and I am amazed how quickly, I can save up some money

Its great fun too, my boys love to empty my purse with me and check which of the coins are "theirs"

Try it, it works for me

Great advice, will have to try it as I am always coming up qwith new things the boys need, perhaps for those SAHM's with no income of your own) you could do the same for your birth year and hubbies also.

Re: Fun Way of Saving for Treats
That's an interesting idea. But just out curiosity, what happens if for some reason you don't get a coin from someone's year of birth? Does your mother then cheat?

Oh my goodness Angie!!!! My Mum cheat!!!!!! She wasn't born with a dishonest bone in her body!!!!LOL
Actually she hasn't needed to. Its true that some years are more popular than others but it surprisingly balances out my oldest and her oldest grandchild is almost 23 and he has about as much as the youngest who was born last year

Re: Fun Way of Saving for Treats
My grandad did this for my aunty. then he got all the new coins (not the normal print on them) in the end after 21 years he had a huge amount and gave it to her. it was great as the whole family in the end started to help.
