Washing baby's hair

ClayCook by ClayCook Minti Founder(February 2006) (rank 41st)
Our little son loves water and the bath, however he doesn't particularly like shampoo running into his eyes.

To keep him entertained whilst bathing I make sure he has toys in the bath (toys like floating rubber duckies, and water proof books etc). I also make sure a bathing mat
is in the bath... this way if he gets a little excited and moves quickly he doesnt fall over and hurt himself.

So when it comes time to wash his hair I like to use a plastic toy small watering can. They are very easy to fill with water and easy to control the water flow. This way you can pour water on your baby's hair with one hand and protect the front of his head with the other hand to stop any water falling down his face and in to his eyes.

Our son is now 21 months old. He still is a little concerned with getting shampoo in his eyes. I have found that there are better brands than others. We use a non soap shampoo. To keep him entertained in his bath now we have alphabet letters that when wet stick to the sides of the bath. Its great fun holding one up and asking him "what's this?"... him saying "R" (or what ever letter I am holding up at the time.. sometimes trying to convince me that an "M" is an "S"... but that's another story), and then sticking the "R" to the side of the bath. He loves it so much that he doesn't mind his hair being wasked while he is occupied.

Re: Washing baby's hair
Good tips, distractions (especially educational ones like sticky letters), are great in the bath... We have taught our wee man to either tilt his head well forward so the water runs straight down on to the bath or shower (instead of his eyes), or well back so that the water runs down his back very helpful too.  I give his face a quick wipe with a facecloth, and then he gets back into splashing and playing without too much fuss.

washing baby's hair
my daughter loves the bathtub, well her baby bathtub. she didnt really like it at first but now she loves getting a bath. but hates it whenever i wash her hair. poor girl :( i try to keep the soap out of her eyes. i use a baby body wash for body and hair and its tearless. so it works a bit, but she still hates it.

There are also little visors you can buy on websites like Amazon that are designed to keep water and soap out of little eyes while you wash their hair. :)

bathing baby
hi, great article, but at what age is your baby. What age did you transfer from the baby bath and how did you bath baby in the big bath when baby couldn't move? Also what techniques or aids did you use to make sure you didn't leave baby alone and answer the phone, as many tragedies have happened.

Re: bathing baby
Good questions Rach. I will add some of the answers to the article.

Obviously as you are my wife you already know these answers yourself! :)

But in regadrs to phone calls etc... I just make sure I stay focused and dont leave our baby in the bath alone. I simply ignore other things like the phone etc.

Actually on second thoughts I may just write another article on transfering from the baby bath to the big bath. The article above is soley focused on Washing Baby's Hair.
