Family Time

Anonymous Author (August 2007)
To me Family Time is the most important time for me. We as a whole unit do something fun and TOGETHER. Every Sunday I try to get family stuff done. Here are some idea's for you.

  • Got to a park and get hubby/partner to do the
BBQ while you watch the kids then after lunch all play together. You'd be surprised at all the cool things they have at parks these days that we as Parents can get into and do. There are a few great one's here in Perth that we love to go to.

  • Play age appropriate games at home. At the moment the kids like the game Trouble where you have to pop the dice in this noisy clicky thing and move your counter around the board till all 4 of you pieces are gone. Another great game is Animal dominoes (you can get them at game shops and your normal shops to) Memory is also a great game for the kids to do.

  • On of my favourites is Photo time. We all sit there and tell a story about the photo's in the photo album. They dont have to be real, it is fun and i love watching them used their Imagination.

  • Playing in the backyard. If you have swings, totem tennis, soccor ball/football, what ever game you like is fun in the back yard. We have this tiny trampaline it's like just under a meter in diameter and Charlie and Alex love it, it's only like 10cm off the floor so it is safe to and can be used indoors as well as out.

  • Now Family Time doesnt have to always be about playing, I sometimes get them all to help about the house as well. This Saturday just gone I got the kids to play a game in their rooms, more of a competition, to see who could clean their rooms the quickest. Sadly it backfired and I ended up doing all the work, but One thing I found helped to get them to help was to ask them to find, in Charlie's room, was 2 barbie dolls and Alex was 10 cars. It worked well after that.

  • Sadly we also have Tv Family time but that is for 30 mins every night where the kids sit with Dad and hugs him while they watch a bit of tv, If they are really good i might let them stay up.

These are my little Family times that i try to do every week cause I feel that we dont do Family stuff anymore. everyone is too busy with there own world to do family stuff.

Monopoly's great for numeracy skills too! You use about 12 different maths skills in a game of monopoly!
