Posting photos on minti

lexiw by lexiw Young Parent(August 2007) (rank 15th)

This article is just my opinion but I really think it needs to be said as some people do not wish their children to be plastered on the web.

If People are going to put pics of their kids on the web then it is their choice but for

someone to post pics of kids that are not theirs with out the parents explicit permission I think this is VERY wrong. What makes anybody think that they have the right to post pics of somebody elses kids on the internet? I would love to post pictures of my beautiful neices but because I do not have my sister and her hubbys permission I would never do that.

I think it is a major invasion of privacy and I really think that unless you have permission you should never post pictures of someone else especially children anywhere on the internet. My advice is that it is so simple just to ask before doing. What does it  hurt to ask a question? Please really think about the pics you are posting on the internet especially of children.

Re: Posting photos on minti

I agree! has someone here on minti been doing ti alot or something?? cause you seem quite angry. I have permission to take photo's of my daycare kid's ect and post over the net as they have signed to give me permission, but I don't do that anyway as I can't get the blasted thing to upload my photos anymore as I'm having problems with my browsers ARGH!. but very good point, n there's probably alot of people who have never even thought about it before.

Re: Posting photos on minti

For me there was one incident where a member from minti posted photos of my sisters children without her permission and she was VERY upset which made me very upset. My sister was unable to get onto minti at the time so she asked me to fix the problem for her. I hope this advice has made people stop and think before they post pictures of anyone without permission.. Thanks for your comment.

Re: Posting photos on minti

I strongly agree Lexi. My brother and sister in law won't let me put up pics of my neices and in a way I am glad. I also agree that you MUST get consent from parents if you are using a picture of their child- even if they are in the background. This makes it a bit tricky when, for instance, most of my performing pictures will have kids in them and can't be used unless I can track down the kids I don't know's parents- but it's not hard to find parents that will give permission. I think the danger is in having a picture of your child and accidentally providing too many details such as their name, childcare centre or location of a place that they play regularly. If I can't find a parent of a child that might be in a really good photo with one of my characters, I either cut the child out using an editing program or blur their faces completely using the same program. GREAT REMINDER THOUGH! It's important for all of us to help ALL kids safe, not just the ones we know :)

Re: Posting photos on minti
I never really thought about this! My sisters and brother in law have pics of my kids on their myspace page and they didnt ask permission, not that we really minded anyway. Although I'm getting a bit worried about all the pics I have of own kids on this site and others.

Well said lexi,i totally agree.  Even with the school wanting permission to put photos of the kids online i am wary. The only reason i agree is because they say it'll be with no names etc and usually more than one child.

Re: Posting photos on minti
We all have to be very careful what we post on the net these days.  Everywhere there are those who want to exploit our babies and they don't care about the consequences.  I'm glad that you have put this out here so that other people can see that some people don't like having their kids posted on line, especially without permisson.  I'm still trying to organise my computer and learn how to add my own photos but I will get to it eventually!  Like maybe once they have grown up! lol.  Not much time for such things this end.

It's not just wrong, it's also illegal. Even taking a photo of a child without their parent's permission is illegal now.

I agree with you 110%. It is disrespectful posting photos of someone else's kids without them giving permission first. I know I wouldn't feel comfortable with people posting photos of my daughter online without asking me first. Great article. Kylie *

I would never presume to put someones picture on a profile that has nothing to do with them. I think that would be the height of rudeness.

Re: Posting photos on minti
I hope you haven't had a bad experience with this - I thought it was common sense.  My wee man, brothers sisters and cousins are all on bebo, and if I take a picture of Jaydee with is friends, I say to their Mum's is it ok to take this picture for Jaydees friend's album online etc.  So far we haven't had a problem.

Couldn't of said it better myself. I totally agree. What rights do we have as aunties or uncles to post pics of our nieces and nephews on here or anywhere. I don't like to post pics of my children on here, because you just don't know who's lurking. Love the article, as it's direct and straight to the point.
