Tucker without Tainty Tantrums

cazza by cazza Young Parent(August 2007) (rank 2nd)
Is there such a normal eating in a toddler...I don''t think so, as one minute they will eat everything you put in front of them and the next they are refusing to eat at all.. and then they go through these fads where they will only eat there favourite food all the time..

Don''t Despair, heres some 10 suggestions on how to overcome it, and not stress.

1.Be consistent with your approach to food refusal. If your child don''t want it straight away, put it aside and offer it later.

2.Try not to get angry, force feed,or bribe your child to eat- such as if you eat this you may have a treat.

3.Serve small portions, you're child could always ask for more

4.Encourage your child to eat healthy choices and encourage the rest of the family to do so as well.

5.Avoid giving too much drinks before hand or during meal times as this can ruin your child' s appetite.

6.Treating your child to Junk food only makes them less likely to eat other foods, so try and only give these only sometimes.

7.Present the food in a different way e.g children often like  raw vegetables.

8.Encourage your child to  help with helping prepare the food, if he/she is older enough.

9.Keep Distractions to a minimum, turn the TV off and sit around the dining table..

10.. And the most important one, is dont panic, as a healthy child will not starve, and eventually they will overcome this and you wonder what all the fuss was about.

If you are really concerned about your child''s health and diet needs seek medical advise or speak to your local clinic sister.
