Help our children overcome Speech Problems

cazza by cazza Young Parent(August 2007) (rank 2nd)
Often we come across children that have speech problems, or husky voices and wonder how can we help them delvelop a heathy voice.... Years ago my son had speech therapy and these are some ideas i picked up alone the way for him to maintain a healthy voice today...

. Allowing them to drink plenty of water. particulary if they are a chatter box, can help them from getting a dry mouth..

If they are suffering from a cold telling them in a sweet way to save their voice and speak when they feel better..

. Avoid shouting, screaming, cheering, constant loud speech and laughter- and this one is the hardest i find as kids get over excited and   love hearing their voice..

. Considering to allow your child to gain your attention and others by using their body movements...

. Avoid forceful coughing and throat clearing...

.Avoid harsh wispering and excessive talking- another one that i found interesting as kids love to talk....

.Avoid your child to be around noisy, smokey or dusty places....

.. Allow them to maintain a relaxed neck and throat muscles and general healthy lifestyles

If you have any concerns regarding yout childs voice or the way in which your child uses their voice, please do not hesitate to contact a speech therapist in your local area,....

My child has a speech problem called dyxpraxia and i do all of these things you have mentioned, and it was great to see someone else know's what my child and other speech problem children go through etc. It's a hard job but it's all worth the effort. Great article. Great research on the topic

Re: Help our children overcome Speech Problems
I'll find the paper work on what i have got given by the speech therapist and i'll write it up ok. Not alot of people know what it is. I'll look now for you and i'll either write it in advice or a blog.
