homemade babyfood

this is a great resource for homemade babyfood.

contrary to popular belief, homemade baby food is easy and quick to make. take any fruit or veggie (or meat) you like that is age approprioate. steam it in a steamer or steamer/rice cooker. food process or blend/mash
and add the steamer water until you have the consistency you like. pour into clean icecube trays. freeze. when they are frozen, put in a freezer safe bag.

when it's time to feed baby you can defrost in the fridge, microwave, or on the plain countertop.

if you don't like freezing/defrosting make it in smaller batches more often and store in the fridge. it lasts about a week. i always made mine in large batches.  you can even use old babyfood jars to store it in, if you have those on hand. you can freeze those as well (with the lid OFF).

making it yourself is fun and healthy, because you can make any combo or texture your baby likes. i did alot of yams, peas, carrots, chicken, apples, and pears.

what is also great are mesh feeders for small babies/toddlers. mangos, bannanas, apples, grapes, pretty much any fruit or whole steamed veggie can go in there.

Re: homemade babyfood

I use wholesomebabyfood.com and love it. I am making the twins food and I love doing it. I love being in the kitchen and this is just another excuse. I am really enjoying the fact that they can now have a bigger variety of food b/c we are not limited to what comes in a jar.

Sounds great. Should've done this when my daughter was growing up.

I made my own as well.. Ice Cube trays are great for freezing that way you have the portions already.. Just pop them all in a freezer bag and take them when you need them.....

home made baby food
I did the same thing with my son.  It is cheaper and you know what is going into yoour child.  People always say I have no time to do that.  I only had to make it twice and it was only 2 hours each time.  I made lots and put it into the freezer.  It takes you the same amount of time to drive to the walmart (or where ever ) and buy the jar food.  really good idea and good for your baby.
