Neighborhood 101: A Call for Advice Articles

jenlemen by jenlemen Young Parent(August 2007) (rank 19th)
I often write in my blog about our life with our neighbors.  So often, people write me privately asking "how did you do that?" or maybe more importantly..."how can I do that??"  Some people can't seem to crack the code on good neighbor relations.  Other people always seem to be in conflict with their neighbors no matter where they live.
But some of you Minti moms and dads out there have been blessed with wonderful friendships with the people who live next door.  That's been the case for me for many years now, and if you're in the same situation--maybe we should start sharing what we know about what really makes things work.

Tag your articles Neighborhood101 and see if you can write an article that fills in one or more of these blanks...

The first thing I do when I move into a new neighborhood is...

One thing that really meant a lot to my neighbors was...

I knew I was part of my neighborhood community when...

I stay connected and friendly with my neighbors by...

My neighbors and I always try to...

The best thing about the people I know in my neighborhood is...

Let's see if together as a Minti community we can help and inspire each other to create the kinds of communities where our kids can flourish and learn more about what it means to be a true neighbor.

Great idea Jen. I have lived in lots of places. In one street years ago the majority of the street gathered on Christmas Eve in the front yard of one house, the BBQ was fired up and everyone bought some food and drinks to share. One of the men would "disappear" for a bit and arrive dressed as Santa and give lollies to the little kids. They loved it!

Where I am now I have great neighbours (including OzBinky!!). There is a couple of houses  that everyone avoids but overall it is good here.

i hope these articles can help!  we've had our moments, too, in houses past, and know how frustrating it can be when things aren't going smoothly.  hope people will take up the challenge so we can get the good advice going.

This is a great idea - so many people seem to have problems with their neighbors - it will be interesting to see what is contributed.
