Need to get rid of out grown clothing and shoes?

FremantleDocker by FremantleDocker Talking Back(August 2007) (rank 77th)

Here are some ideas and explanations on how you can get rid of the out grown clothing and shoes.

  • Have a garage sale once every 6 months, and don't sell the clothing for too much. People won't pay that much for second hand clothing.
  • If
you're in a mothers group, have a swap about every 3 months or 6 months and put it all on a table in the middle of the room or against a wall, and have a coffee or what ever, and then sort out what clothing you would like to take home, and the clothing etc that's not taken, then at the end of  the year, have like a stall and the money will be to put back into the mothers groups to buy like coffee, tea  cakes etc.
  • Put them onto freecycle. This is a great way to get rid of your unwanted clothing. There's always very gratefull people who are after clothing for free, especially if it's children clothing.
  • Take them to op shops. They are always in need of clothing, shoes etc of any age. I always take the households clothing to op shops, and sometimes i buy alot of the clothing etc aswell from there. cheap and easy way to shop these days, and i'm never ashamed either to shop in one.

If anyone else has any ideas, please feel free to input your advice. Hope this has helped some one out there.

Just did all of this while preparing to move.  So liberating to let go of "stuff".

Love it when we move for that reason. But if we don't move in a while, i do a heap of spring cleaning and alot of stuff goes to different places.

Re: Need to get rid of out grown clothing and shoes?
When my son was a baby, I had a wonderful baby shower, he out grew every thing quickly.  On Tuesdays, we'd go to a play group for babies to 3 years, and then after to the local beach where the kids could play and run around.  One year, I didn't have a garage sale and wanted to get rid of stuff.   I brought a couple of big spreads, and had all clothing, toys, whatever, and was at the park for a couple of hours.....most was gone when time for afternoon nap.  no hassle of yard sale...I don't like to bicker about price....Quite right about marking to a low price first! Take care, Simba1

Re: Need to get rid of out grown clothing and shoes?
I have also done this. I have a few friends that have boys younger and smaller than my son. I pass them on to them or I donate them to a consignment shop. I have also bought clothing from there or a yard sale.

Re: Need to get rid of out grown clothing and shoes?

Great advice and ideas

I like to sell unwanted clothes, shoes and whatever else I no longer wnat anymore at the local secondhand and new markets. Then I get a few dollars returned for each item I have bought.

Re: Need to get rid of out grown clothing and shoes?

Thankyou.

That's a great idea also is to sell them at the markets. Might do that aswell. Paddy's market isn't too far away from me, so i might just do that. Thanks for the great idea. Will have to tell hubby this fantastic idea and hopefully he'll agree.

Great advice! I am finding it so hard to part with JB's clothes, they evoke so many memories! However we do recycle a lot of clothes, books and anything else we can to charities.

YEah, i found it hard also when my youngest boy grew out of the clothing from the hand me down's from my first boy. I've kept only a seleted few clothing from the both the boys and girls, but yeah, it is hard to depart with some things.

Re: Need to get rid of out grown clothing and shoes?

I'm really bad.....my dear son is 11 years, and still have baby toys, cloths, and his highchair!  There were just some things which were too special, filled with memories, that I have to keep.  In a craft article, one of those 2" thick frames, the clothing would get cut to fit, then a picture added for the same time, or maybe even in the outfit.  Another, a quilt of patches, cuttings from all clothing, filling, then a solid background if you are handy with a needle.

Take care, Simba1

Re: Need to get rid of out grown clothing and shoes?
Thankyou for the great support. Yeah, it does make it easier doesn't it when you know alot of people, and you can pass the clothes onto. I don't know anyone who has a girl younger than me besides my sister in law's sister, but she lives too far away, and only see her about twice a year.

After reading this article in yesterdays Courier Mail, I've decided that  all of my outgrown clothing will be going to the nearest womens shelter.

They should do this in every state where you can actually give your clothing to the homeless who actually do this. Thanks heaps for the article.

Re: Need to get rid of out grown clothing and shoes?

thankyou. :)

I've seen children with holes in the knees and arms at the shops before, but the clothing are in good condition except for the holes, if that makes sense. I don't think you're the only one.
