How To Get Gum Out Of Children's Hair |
This is a problem that I thought I would not have to deal with since my children are older. However, my 12 year old son Elijah had a friend stay the night after a full day of hanging out with a group of friends. Unfortunately during all the fun, my
son's friend, Roman, who has long surfer hair, got a huge clump of gum right in the top of his hair. We've all heard of several different remedies for removing gum, but usually end up getting frustrated and decide to just cut it out. I did not have that option since it was not my child's hair. The first method I tried was using an ice cube to freeze it and then pull it off. This did not work AT ALL!! Next I heard about peanut butter, so I t ook huge heaping spoonfuls and put it all over the whole clump of gum. I let it sit on his hair for about 5 minutes. The oil from the peanuts started to loosen the gum enough for me to pull apart sections of the hair. Then I took a fine tooth comb and slowly combed out each section of gum, wiping the comb off after every section so I did not put the gum back into his hair. This was a slow process, but it WORKED!! Next time you find yourself ready to cut your child's hair, break out the jar of peanut butter, a fine tooth comb and a lot of patience.
