Kids not eating healthy enough?

FremantleDocker by FremantleDocker Talking Back(August 2007) (rank 74th)

With 2 of my children when they were growing up, they really didn't want to eat alot of healthy food, but were good eaters on other things that were healthy for them, so i decided to make ice blocks out of the juice.

I would squeeze the orange's, lemons,

limes, mandarines  and make ice blocks out of them. The kids ate them that way. With the vegetables, i would cook them, then mash them up and make them into vegetable hash browns, and they would eat them that way. They enjoyed their fruit and vegetables the way i did them, better than just the whole lot.

It made my life a little easier, and it made it fun for them. SO what im trying to say is experiment on the different ways on what you can do with food, and if they won't eat a certain food one way, try another way to give it to them.

IF anyone has anymore ideas, please feel free to add your's along. thankyou.

Re: Kids not eating healthy enough?

I agree with serving food up cooked in a variety of methods - however I do not agree that kids need juice.  Kids need whole fruits - not just the juice.

A good suggestion however

Hi and thanks for your great comments. Yeah, if kids do eat fruit, they don't necessarily need juices. Great idea.

My family eats Juice Plus+ as a way to get in nutrition we lack in our diets even though we try our best to eat well.  Juice Plus+ is 17 fruits, vegetables and whole grains in capsule form.  The positive effects have been studied by independent colleges and univesities worldwide.  It comes actually comes in capsules, chewables and even a gummy version for kids.  I actually take the gummies to work instead of snacking on candy.  The nutrition remains but not the sugar or salt.  It's virtually calorie free.  It's an easy, affordable way to give your family a wide variety of whole food nutrition.  You can check out my site www.alisonjuiceplus.com for more information and to see the impressive research.

Re: Kids not eating healthy enough?

Great advice! I was never one for veggies as a child either, erm well actually I am still not, but I have got a whole lot better!

I also heard of doing vegie tempura for kids with a nice dipping sauce. At the moment I do not have a problem with my son and fruit and veg, but I have tried him with fruit smoothie and he loved this!

Re: Kids not eating healthy enough?

With my little one almost a year old, and the summer months not far away, and with him teething, this would be a great idea.

Cheers.

Cindy.

Re: Kids not eating healthy enough?
Good on you for not giving your child sweets. Great alternatives you give them too. Funnily enough, the only junk food that my daughter really loves to eat is lollies and icecream, which we only give her when she's been really good and only about once a month or more.

Re: Kids not eating healthy enough?
Hi there,

I've always made my kids fruit juice Icy poles as I like to make sure they are getting the best. I also freeze some fruit pieces in the centre as well. Strawberries freeze really well. I love to be imaginative with my kids food.

Cheers Kellz

Hey :) That's a great tip about the strawberries I didn't know that. I'm currently growing strawberries, as my 4 year old will live off them. Thanks heaps for that tip.

He he he he he. Yeah, it is very sneaky, but it does the job of them eating everything healthy. Hoping that it works for you too. good luck.
