I want to share with you all about the program that chloe has being involved with in the last year at our local primary school called Reading rockets... What the program involves is for each child that is from birth to 5 years to have the interaction and ability to

enjoy reading prior to them starting school....
So each week for a year now Chloe has being attending this program and below is what she gets to learn, and also helps me with helping her enjoy reading, and also learn to read soon enough....
Say silly tongue twisters.
Sing songs, read rhyming books, and say silly tongue twisters. These help kids become sensitive to the sounds in words.
Read it and experience it.
Connect what your child reads with what happens in life. If reading a book about animals, relate it to your last trip to the zoo.
Use your child's name.
Point out the link between letters and sounds. Says Chloe , so the word Clap begins with the same sound as your name. Chloe, Clap And they both begin with the same letter, C''
Play with puppets.
Play language games with puppets. Have the puppet say, "My name is james, and i like playing games etc.... and allow your child learn how to match words with each other and make it fun
Trace and say letters.
Have your child use a finger to trace a letter while saying the letter's sound. Do this on paper, in sand, or on a plate of sugar.
Write it down.
Have paper and pencils available for your child to use for writing. Working together, write a sentence or two about something special. Encourage her to use the letters and sounds she/he is learning about in school.
Play sound games.
Practice blending sounds into words. Ask "Can you guess what this word is? m - o - p." Hold each sound longer than normal.
Read it again and again.
Go ahead and read your child's favorite book for the 100th time! As you read, pause and ask your child about what is going on in the book.
Talk about letters and sounds.
Help your child learn the names of the letters and the sounds the letters make. Turn it into a game! "I'm thinking of a letter and it makes the sound mmmmmm."
These we have learnt how to interact with our children in a school environment and also in the school library...
Chloe also has the oppurnity to have these happen to help her enjoy reading as well..
Each week for 2 days she attends a Reading program where she interacts with Primary school children, and the children read to her, and have Cards that they give to her so that she can learn to learn her Nursery Ryhmes......
These sort of programs are GREAT for children that are pre primary school age, and i only wished that they had these sort of programs around when Brodie and caitlyn were younger, as i did take them and still do take them to the town library... But what the education department and Government have came up with in this program that they have for Chloes age and below is great,....
Hope all your children get this OPPURNITY like chloe and the rest of the children that i know..... ITS FUN AND THEY LEARN....
TAKE CARE
