sleeping problems!

goodie by goodie Talking(September 2007) (rank 152nd)

My son was a great sleeper until about a month and a half ago. This was when he started teething he was just 3 months old when he got the first one.

Anyway needless to say he had a lil trouble sleeping because it hurts. Unfortunately I know exactly

how he feels as I have had a wisdom tooth coming through for ages it is very painful. I dont envy poor lil bubs because they have to grow them all. Its lucky that they forget the pain of it all after a lil while.

But anyway he was getting up a lot because his teeth were hurting (poor lil guy). But then after his tooth came through he was still waking up heaps, so I started thinking about what else it could be because he was very distressed when he woke up.

He was acting hungry which he shouldn't have been as he always gos to sleep on a full tummy. So then I thought that he was having a growth spurt and thats why he wanted to eat so much but it just kept going. Then when I took him to the child health nurse she asked how he was going and I told her about all the night feeds, then she said that my milk may not be up to par at the moment that perhaps I was stressed and thats why my milk wasn't filling him. She suggested that I feed him them supliment some formula afterwards. I was a lil upset with that idea as I didn't want him to get used to the bottle and not want the boob anymore.

So I am pursevering and feeding him more often to keep him fuller longer and also expressing a lil so that he has more of the hindmilk. Anyway I'm getting a lil off topic so he is still waking up at night so a get up and give him his dummy then kiss him and go lay back down, somtimes this is enough. somethimes I pick him up and cuddle him till he drops off again.  But then there are nights when he will not go back to sleep without a feed so then i take him to bed with me.

I know that a lot of people are against co-sleepin but I do take prcautions to keep him safe. anyway on these nights when he is extra hungry I feed him while lying on my side and then we he wants more I pop him back on  this way my sleep isn't 2 disturbed by having to get up contantsly.

We don't do this every night but it makes those nights when he wakes up heaps so much more bearable and you can go back to sleep a lot easier then if you have to get up. I realise that this will not work for everyone but it really has worked for us so if your able to and your getting too tired to get up ten times a night, give this ago.

also patience is deffinately the key, babies dont usually wake up for no reason!!! enjoy your beautiful babies!!
