Save Those Baby Books

tracey by tracey Young Parent(July 2006) (rank 13th)

As our children travel from baby to toddler to big kid, we often get rid of the toys they outgrow. If we didn't we'd live in a house FULL of toys and no parent wants that. Although it's important to purge, a good idea is to keep some of those

favorite "baby books" to pull out again when your child is in the early stages of reading.

I would have never thought of this myself, I swear, but as I gathered books to give away (many of my daughters simple board books) my husband reminded me that there were some among them that would be perfect for her again when she began to read. What a great idea! So, we boxed up some of our favorites and saved them for her. Was he ever right!  When it was time to start reading, they were perfect books for her to read. She was familiar with many of them so it made it fun for her and she had a little help because she knew the stories. It was empowering and exciting for her to begin to "read" her old books.

Keeping the books
We still love going to my mom's house and checking out all our old bigs.  We have to make sure that Jen doesn't steal them out from under us.

Oh totally agree...

I have books from when I was a kid, and I am so looking forward to the time I can share them with my kids....
