To reduce the risk of choking make sure your baby is sitting in his/her high chair when eating and never force feed your baby.
Avoid harsh foods that are likely to cause choking such as;
- Foods that can break off into hard pieces, e.g. hard biscutes, raw apple, nuts.
- Hard lollies and bubble gum
- Small bones in fish, meat or poultry
- Raw whole apple, carrot or celery ( you can grate these things to make them safe or cook them)
- Raw or slightly cooked carrott or celery (you can grate this or make it much softer)
- Sausage or frankfurt skins (remove them)
- Whole peas, corn, beans, grapes (squash or split these)
These are just some of the foods to be aware of with your baby. You should always supervise your baby when you are feeding it or it is feeding itself incase of the risk of choking.
This is only a small guide to foods not objects.
