Arm's Reach Co-sleeper Bassinet

Izzy by Izzy Minti Founder(September 2007) (rank 8th)

When I had my son (my first), I used a midrange price Bassinet  so that I could have him beside me. This made breastfeeding easier. In addition to waking up every couple of hours to nurse, I woke up every hour (sometimes every half hour) just so I could

peak at him and see if he was still breathing. Having to lift my head slightly just to take a peak wasn’t fun, especially since I wasn’t fully recovered from my c-section. Lifting my son out of the bassinet wasn’t fun either. I had to sit up, pick him out of the bassinet and lay back down to breastfeed. A few times, I picked up my son using his swaddle so that I could avoid having to sit up. This was disastrous. Once, I dropped one end of the blanket and dropped my little man back in the bassinet. It was nothing serious since it was only a 5 inch drop.

This time around, with my twins, I researched Bassinets and found one by Arm’s Reach. It’s a unique bassinet where one side is lower than the other 3 sides. With different models, I was able to pick one where the low side is exactly the same height as my mattress. This made it easier to glance at my twins and made it easier for me to grab them to breastfeed. It was also the only bassinet I found (the Arm’s Reach Original model) that could fit twins. The bassinet position could hold up to 30 lbs, and the playpen position could hold up to 50 lbs. The rest of the 3 sides have pockets on the sides to store diapers, extra clothes and whatever else you may need in the middle of the night.

Though quite pricey, it’s been a godsend. If you are thinking of a great sturdy bassinet that makes co-sleeping and breastfeeding, I highly recommend this one.  The Original model that I have is quite big, but they also offer a mini version for single babies and/or if you have a smaller area beside your bed.

Great article! We made our own, adapted from a cot frame we got for £3 from the local tip (just bolted it at the right height - oops, 1" too high!). We just put the side back on (she's too tall & too mobile) & Im having withdrawl symptoms already! It worked so well. I too tried to lift my first baby in & out of the basket and it didnt agree with me at all post-birth!

It's a little sad but the company never got back with me about where in Austriala Arm's Reach bassinets are available.

But based on quick searches online, they are indeed available in several countries!

Re: Arm's Reach Co-sleeper Bassinet
Oh wow thanks Izzy! I'm a co-sleeper but had her in my bed with me to save space.  My best friend however is having her 1st baby, but is a full-time step mother of 3 children already.  Her husband believes that babies belong in the family bed, and their 4 year old sometimes still joins them, but not very often.  She on the other hand was raised with unlimited affection, but no children in the adult's bed for anything other than story time.  So this might be the answer for them! They have 2 months to go and have bought a cot and all the set-up to match the cot, but her hubby still says cot for day sleeps, family bed overnight.  I'll look for these and show them next week when they're in town.

Re: Arm's Reach Co-sleeper Bassinet
i've heard great things about the arm's reach!!   it's really great middle ground if you're interested in co-sleeping but don't necessarily want your kids in your bed.
