* Prewriting skills do not have to be developed by sitting at a table and doing writing tasks. Movements is a great way to teach children about shapes.direction and other concepts associated with prewriting. try to keep the movements large
Encourage children to use a variety of materials for drawing
* Thick textas, glitter pens, pencils,paintbrushers and crayons are appropriate
* Provide variation of thickness and length to help with natural emergence of a pencil grasp.
* Vary the gradient of the surface that children write on . Use blackboards, whiteboards or flat surfaces
* Don't forget to include games that don't require a child a child to draw but simulate holding a texta
here are some examples of some activities that i do at home with my lil man
1. Draw shapes in the sand, children can trace over them with their fingers or with cars, farm animals or other toys get your child to draw their own shapes with their fingers or a stick in the wet sand
2. Use shaving cream or finger paint draw a shape and children trace over it with their finger have your child copy this shape
3. Set up roads or tracks in the shape that you targetin get your child to drives cars around from a designated starting point to finish
4. When doing specific pencil and paper activities try to keep your lines thick and bold and keep the activity large
5. Draw a shape on the black/whiteboard and have your child erase the shape in the direction the shape is drawn
6. Make sandpaper shapes so your child can feel thier way around them with there fingers
